Job summary

New Westminster Surgical Centre, a division of Clearpoint Health Network, seeks an Environmental Service Aide to support the surgical unit and PACU through terminal cleaning and disinfection after daily cases. The role requires evening/night shifts and adherence to IPAC/WHMIS safety standards in a 3-OR facility.

Responsibilities include cleaning rooms, disposing of waste, replenishing supplies, and maintaining common areas to ensure readiness for the next day’s operations.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of IPAC principles and cleaning/disinfection practices.
  • Fluent written and verbal English.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain high cleanliness standards.
  • Evening/night shift with variable end time based on cases.
  • Proactive, cooperative team member able to handle chemicals and waste safely.

Responsibilities

  • Complete terminal cleaning and disinfection of operating rooms, procedure room, and designated clinical areas according to IPAC standards.
  • Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces, equipment, floors, and other areas.
  • Remove and dispose of garbage, clinical waste, and recycling per procedures.
  • Clean and maintain kitchen, staff areas, washrooms, reception, and common areas.
  • Replenish cleaning and environmental supplies as required.
  • Follow IPAC, WHMIS, health and safety, and workplace procedures.
  • Ensure facility is clean, safe, and ready for next day’s operations.
  • Report maintenance, safety, supply, or cleaning concerns to supervisor.

Position summary:

As the Environmental Service Aide/ Housekeeper you are responsible and accountable for providing direct support to the surgical unit and PACU to facilitate the processing of patients. You will be responsible for completing thorough terminal cleaning and environmental services at a 3-OR Surgical Centre with 1 procedure room following the completion of daily cases. Hours will vary based on the timing of the final case and operational needs.

You will act in accordance with policies and procedures for proper care and maintenance of the facility and its equipment. You must have a comprehensive understanding of safety regulations related to cleaning products and demonstrate a professional and caring approach in dealing with clients, co-workers and supervisors.

Qualifications
  • Previous healthcare, hospital, surgical centre, or clinical cleaning experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of IPAC principles and cleaning/disinfection practices.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain a high standard of cleanliness.
  • Ability to work evenings/nights with a variable end time based on completion of surgical cases.
  • Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to safely handle cleaning chemicals, waste, and equipment.
  • Must be fluent in written and verbal English, and possess good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must be capable of working under pressure and performing a wide range of duties that may require independent action.
  • Must be proactive, cooperative, and alert, accept directions, and be able to function as a team member.
Schedule:

Evening/night shift with a variable end time based on the completion of the final case and operational requirements.
