Qualifications

  • Experience supporting major infrastructure projects is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario Reg. 153/04 and 406/19 and their application.

Overview

AtkinsRéalis is seeking an Environmental Scientist to join our Toronto or Ottawa teams. This is a full-time (40 hours per week), hybrid position, requiring two days per week in the office. The position will primarily support major transportation projects across Ontario, with opportunities to contribute to work across Canada and internationally as needed.

Your role
  • Support the planning, scoping, and design of environmental sampling and investigation programs, including the identification of environmental indicators, contaminants of concern, and potential sampling constraints.

  • Assist in the development of sampling protocols, including the selection of sampling locations, sampling frequency and timing, data collection methodologies, and analytical parameters.

  • Ensure site assessments are completed in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and industry best practices, and support the development and implementation of appropriate corrective or remedial action plans.

  • Prepare high-quality technical reports that satisfy regulatory and client requirements, identify potential environmental risks, and provide recommendations for further investigation, monitoring, or remediation.

  • Interpret environmental data and assessment findings to support informed decision-making and project objectives.

  • Communicate assessment results and recommendations to stakeholders, including property owners, responsible parties, regulatory agencies, clients, and members of the public, through effective consultation and engagement processes.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to deliver environmental services safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project schedules and budgets.

About you
  • Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) in Ontario is considered an asset.

  • Minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in environmental project planning, coordination, and management, with a focus on contaminated site assessment and remediation.

  • Experience supporting major infrastructure, rail, and transit projects is considered an asset.

  • Strong knowledge of Ontario Regulation 153/04 (as amended) and Ontario Regulation 406/19, including their application to contaminated site assessment and management.

  • Strong understanding of, and commitment to, health, safety, and technical protocols and procedures.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and build collaborative relationships with team members, clients, regulators, and stakeholders across multiple geographic locations.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear, concise, and technically sound documentation.

  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and capable of successfully managing multiple projects and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Expected compensation for this role is between $91,000 - $125,100
annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
