Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Toronto seeks an Environmental Scientist to join the Site Assessment & Remediation team. You will lead sampling program scope, develop protocols, and ensure site assessments meet regulatory requirements.

The role involves preparing site assessment reports, communicating results to stakeholders, and mentoring project teams. Ontario license and about 5 years of environmental consulting experience in contaminated site assessment and remediation are expected.

  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject.
  • Fully licensed as a P.Eng or P.Geo in Ontario.
  • Around 5 years of environmental consulting experience with contaminated site assessment and remediation.
  • Extensive experience with Ontario Regulation 153/04 (amended) and 406/19.

Responsibilities

  • Determine need and scope for sampling programs, including indicators and constraints.
  • Develop environmental sampling protocols, frequency of sampling, and data capture plans.
  • Ensure site assessments are completed and action plans implemented to meet outcomes.
  • Prepare site assessment reports meeting regulatory requirements and identify further actions.
  • Communicate results to stakeholders (owners, regulators, public) via appropriate processes.
  • Oversee preparation and senior review of deliverables; mentor staff and guide project teams.

Job Description Overview AtkinsRéalis is seeking an Environmental Scientist to join our team in Toronto. Our expert team specializes in managing environmental liability through comprehensive site investigations, risk assessments, and tailored remediation and risk management plans. The Site Assessment & Remediation (SAR) team is uniquely positioned within AtkinsRéalis, supporting every sector — from transportation and infrastructure to water, power, renewables, and more. The role is primarily focused on projects across Ontario, with opportunities to support initiatives across Canada and internationally as needed.

Your role
  • Determine the need and scope for sampling programs, including environmental indicators, chemicals of concern, and sampling constraints.
  • Develop environmental sampling protocols, the frequency and timing of sampling, optimum locations for continuous or discrete sampling, data capture systems, and parameter list for analysis.
  • Ensure site assessments are completed properly and that action plans are developed and implemented to satisfactorily achieve the desired outcomes.
  • Prepare site assessment report(s) to meet regulatory and other requirements, identifying potential risk and scope of further action by appropriate stakeholders, if necessary.
  • Communicate results of site assessment to stakeholders such as property owners, responsible party, regulators, the public, etc. via a public consultation or other appropriate communication process.
  • Oversee the preparation and senior review of technical deliverables, mentoring staff and providing senior technical direction to project teams.
About you
  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree from a program with relevant subject matter.
  • Fully licensed (and in good standing) as a P.Eng or P.Geo in the province of Ontario.
  • Around 5 years of environmental consulting experience encompassing project planning, coordinating and project management, with emphasis in the areas of contaminated site assessment and remediation.
  • Extensive experience with Ontario Regulation 153/04 (as amended) and Ontario Regulation 406/19.
  • Capable of understanding and appropriately applying prescribed safety and technical protocols.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment, including working with colleagues in different geographic regions.
  • Self‑motivated, high energy, strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time and multiple projects appropriately.

Additional information

Expected compensation for this role is between $73,400 - $100,900 CAD annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
