Job summary

SLR Consulting is seeking an experienced Environmental Planner to lead environmental planning studies and approvals for major power, renewable energy, and mining projects across Ontario. You will prepare EA documentation, coordinate permits with regulators, and guide teams on applicable laws and requirements.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, manage client relationships, and contribute to proposal efforts while traveling nationally as needed.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree specializing in an environmental discipline (environmental science or engineering, ecology, environmental law/policy).
  • 10+ years of experience in environmental consulting.
  • Experience with power, renewables, and mining EA’s is strongly preferred.
  • Understanding Indigenous communities in Canada with lived/work/education experience.
  • Knowledge of federal, provincial, and municipal environmental regulatory and permitting requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage environmental planning studies and approvals for projects across Ontario.
  • Prepare and review environmental assessment documentation and planning reports.
  • Coordinate environmental permitting with regulatory agencies.
  • Provide strategic guidance on applicable environmental legislation and approval processes.
  • Travel within Canada for client meetings and field research (up to 10%).

We are Making Sustainability Happen.In this role, you will be responsible for conducting and overseeing environmental and socio-economic research (primary and secondary source research), managing projects and client relationships, supporting other team members and principals as needed, and working in a team environment.**Your specific responsibilities will include:*** Work with our team on significant power, renewable energy, and mining projects;* Lead and manage environmental planning studies and approvals for projects throughout Ontario;* Prepare and review environmental assessment documentation, environmental impact studies, planning reports, and supporting technical reports;* Provide strategic guidance to staff and clients regarding applicable federal, provincial, and municipal environmental legislation, policies, and approval processes;* Coordinate environmental permitting and approvals with regulatory agencies;* Support due diligence and environmental constraints analyses for project planning and development;* Conducting environmental and socio-economic research including data collection, analysis, and reporting;* Designing and implementing stakeholder/community engagement and communications plans and programs involving various communities (Indigenous and non-Indigenous), private sector companies, governments, non-governmental groups and organizations across Canada;* Contributing to or leading project proposals and other business development efforts;* Manage environmental planning projects, including scope, schedule, budget, resource allocation, and client communication;* Working collaboratively with teams of environmental and social scientists and planners, involved in multi-disciplinary impact assessments and strategic planning and policy development assignments;* Applying creative and critical thinking skills;* Reviewing and editing other's work and contributing to a supportive mentoring environment;* Managing quality and coaching staff on the projects that you oversee* Efficiently balancing several projects concurrently;* Travelling within Canada to client meetings and for field research, as needed;* Understanding Indigenous communities in Canada, with demonstrated lived, work, or educational experience; and* Being a strong team player with a willingness to learn, mentor and share.We want to grow our team around the right people.
