Job summary

VINCI Group in Canada is seeking an Environmental Manager to support the refurbishment of the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station. You will design and oversee environmental planning and documentation for a new deep-water intake in Lake Ontario, coordinating with designers, construction teams, and regulators.

The role requires experience with environmental management systems, ISO 14001, and high-risk projects such as tunneling.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in planning, environmental planning, environmental assessment, geography, or related discipline.
  • At least 6 years of experience in an environmental role.
  • Experience implementing environmental management systems.
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 standards and QHSE regulations for large construction projects.
  • Experience in tunneling or underground works is an asset.
  • Experience in high-risk environments (nuclear, offshore) is an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support project teams in the implementation and continuous improvement of the Environmental Management System.
  • Coordinate environmental documentation, permits, monitoring programs, and regulatory compliance activities with consultants, designers, construction teams, and stakeholders.
  • Lead environmental risk assessments during design and construction phases, identifying impacts and implementing mitigation measures to minimize environmental footprint.
  • Oversee environmental monitoring programs (noise, vibration, dust, emissions, water quality) and ensure compliance with project requirements and thresholds.
  • Conduct site inspections, audits, trainings, and awareness programs to promote environmental best practices and compliance.
  • Manage environmental non-conformities, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives with effective communication of lessons learned.
  • Act as the primary environmental point of contact on site, supporting project management with reporting and stakeholder engagement.
  • Contribute to QHSE performance through audits, management reviews, process improvements, and cross-functional coordination.

ThePickeringNuclearGeneratingStationrefurbishmentprograminvolvesdesigningandbuildinganewdeep-waterintakeinLakeOntariotoimprovetheplant'scoolingsystem.Thiswillinvolve:

A1.5km-longtunnel,builtbyapressurizedTBM(10.5mdiameterslurryTBM);
Twoverticalshafts(onshoreandoffshore);
Anoffshoremodularintakestructure,restingonthelakebed.

Whatyouwilldo:

Theprojectisdistinguishedbyitsproximitytoanactivenuclearsite,requiringrigorousstandardsofsafety,planningandcoordination.

Concretely,yourtaskswillbe:
  • SupportedprojectteamsintheimplementationandcontinuousimprovementoftheEnvironmentalManagementSystem;
  • Coordinatedenvironmentaldocumentation,permits,monitoringprograms,andregulatorycomplianceactivitieswithconsultants,designers,constructionteams,andstakeholders;
