Job summary

Deep-Water Intake Group is seeking an Environmental Manager for a major Canada-wide deep-water intake project near Pickering. You will drive environmental compliance, sustainability, and continuous improvement across design and construction phases, coordinating with project teams and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities include leading EMS implementation, risk assessments, and regulatory reporting, while ensuring safe, compliant operation in a high-risk nuclear/industrial context.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in planning, environmental planning, environmental assessment, geography or related discipline.
  • At least 6 years of experience in an environmental role.
  • Experience implementing environmental management systems.
  • Knowledge of ISO14001 and QHSE regulations for large construction projects.
  • Experience in tunneling or underground works.
  • Experience on projects with high-risk environments (nuclear, offshore).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure environmental compliance, sustainability, and continuous improvement across all project phases.
  • Coordinate environmental documentation, permits, monitoring programs, and regulatory activities with consultants, designers, construction teams, and stakeholders.
  • Lead environmental risk assessments during design and construction, identifying impacts and mitigation measures.
  • Oversee environmental monitoring programs (noise, vibration, dust, emissions, water quality) and ensure regulatory thresholds are met.
  • Conduct site inspections, audits, trainings, and awareness programs to promote best practices.
  • Manage non-conformities, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as the on-site environmental point of contact, supporting management with reporting, reviews, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Contribute to QHSE performance through audits, management reviews, and process improvements.

Whatistheproject?

ThePickeringNuclearGeneratingStationrefurbishmentprograminvolvesdesigningandbuildinganewdeep-waterintakeinLakeOntariotoimprovetheplant'scoolingsystem.Thiswillinvolve:

  • A1.5km-longtunnel,builtbyapressurizedTBM(10.5mdiameterslurryTBM);
  • Twoverticalshafts(onshoreandoffshore);
  • Anoffshoremodularintakestructure,restingonthelakebed.

Theprojectisdistinguishedbyitsproximitytoanactivenuclearsite,requiringrigorousstandardsofsafety,planningandcoordination.

Whatyouwilldo:

As an Environmental Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring environmental compliance, sustainability, and continuous improvement across all phases of the project, while supporting project teams in minimizing environmental impacts and meeting regulatory requirements.

Concretely,yourtaskswillbe:
  • SupportedprojectteamsintheimplementationandcontinuousimprovementoftheEnvironmentalManagementSystem;
  • Coordinatedenvironmentaldocumentation,permits,monitoringprograms,andregulatorycomplianceactivitieswithconsultants,designers,constructionteams,andstakeholders;
  • Ledenvironmentalriskassessmentsduringdesignandconstructionphases,identifyingimpactsandimplementingmitigationmeasurestominimizeenvironmentalfootprint;
  • Oversawenvironmentalmonitoringprograms(noise,vibration,dust,emissions,waterquality)andensuredcompliancewithprojectrequirementsandregulatorythresholds;
