The Opportunity:
As an intermediate Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Specialist, you will be responsible for conducting EIAs, supporting consultation and engagement activities with external stakeholders, and preparing EIA documentation for mining, nuclear, and energy projects. You will rely on your demonstrated experience navigating EIA requirements, environmental permitting, and related authorization processes relevant to development projects in Ontario. Experience with the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act and/or the federal Impact Assessment Act is essential. You will work with a dynamic and experienced team as a key member to serve a variety of exciting clients and projects.

What you can expect to do here:
- Plan, coordinate, and carry out environmental and socio-economic impact studies, obtain permits, and implement environmental monitoring and management systems.
- Coordinate projects across sectors like nuclear, transmission, renewable energy, transportation, infrastructure, mining, and oil and gas.
- Ensure timely delivery of technical work by coordinating team efforts.
- Manage small to medium EIAs or environmental permitting projects, supporting larger multidisciplinary projects.
- Represent client projects to stakeholders, including regulators, industry groups, environmental groups, landowners, Indigenous communities, and the public.
- Participate in meetings and consultation events.
- Develop proposals, work scopes, budgets, and schedules with support from senior staff.
- Manage project scope, budget, schedule, and quality while fostering core values.
- Support logistics for environmental field programs.
- Contribute to report writing, editing, and engagement materials.
- Champion HS&E principles throughout the organization.
- Mentor junior staff and collaborate regionally and nationally with other practitioners.
- Provide environmental and regulatory leadership.
What you’ll bring to WSP:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Environmental Science, Biology, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in conducting and managing EIAs, especially for mining, nuclear, and energy projects.
- Thorough understanding of Ontario and federal EIA requirements.
- Knowledge of provincial and federal regulatory processes and approvals.
- Experience managing complex projects and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong relationship-building skills.
- Proven ability to write detailed technical reports.
- Ability to work independently and within teams under deadlines.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Willingness to travel and work outside standard hours occasionally.
