Job Description

The Opportunity :

WSP’s Mining Environmental Approvals Team has an opportunity for an Environmental Impact Assessment / Environmental Approvals Technical Manager or Technical Director.

The successful candidate will seek growth within a strong consulting team working on diverse mining environmental approval projects focused on Ontario. This role offers the chance to lead challenging projects, foster professional development, and advance your career. Ideal candidates will have 15+ years of relevant experience in a consulting environment, strong communication skills, and a proven ability to work collaboratively in a team.

Your Key Responsibilities :

  1. Lead within a skilled approvals team, liaise with clients and regulators to document, negotiate, and secure federal and provincial environmental approvals for mining projects.
  2. Provide technical and regulatory support for mining projects, collaborating with in-house experts in hydrology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, aquatic resources, and engineering.
  3. Produce high-quality project documents that meet WSP’s standards, clients’ budgets, and schedules.

What you'll bring to WSP :

  1. Undergraduate or Master’s degree in environmental studies, biology, geosciences, engineering, or relevant fields from a recognized university. Candidates with other relevant credentials and experience may also be considered.
  2. 15+ years of experience in environmental impact assessments, environmental approvals, or similar work for natural resource projects in a Canadian northern environment. Experience with northern Ontario mining project approvals is an asset.
  3. Attention to detail and excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  4. Strong technical understanding of environmental issues related to open pit and underground mining.
  5. A self-starter who enjoys teamwork, multitasking, and collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams.
  6. Qualified candidates with different levels of experience will be considered for roles appropriate to their background.
