What Will You Do?
- Assist with the operation of the Landfill Gas management system, which includes balancing the well field, managing condensate, and coordinating with maintenance contractors and consultants
- Assist with the operation of the Groundwater Diversion System and the Leachate Collection and conveyance System
- Conduct monitoring activities at all Edmonton Waste Management Centre (EWMC) and other Waste Services sites (eco-stations, closed landfills) for groundwater wells, leachate wells, and perimeter gas probes
- Taking weekly groundwater measurements, downloading levelogger data, and collecting gas composition readings, as well as regular sampling (monthly groundwater, quarterly leachate, and waste sampling)
- Accurately enter data collected from inspections and monitoring into respective spreadsheets
- Participate in ENVISO and safety inspections/audits, clean and maintain lab and sampling equipment, and pick up necessary supplies and equipment
- Independently troubleshoot routine operational and monitoring issues (e.g., pump problems)
Qualifications:
- Completion of a two (2) year Diploma in a Civil or Chemical Engineering Technologist program
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in the Waste Management field, preferably in the operation of landfills, including environmental sampling and environmental monitoring experience
- Must be eligible to be recognized as a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) with ASET
Skills Required for Success:
- Knowledge of technical and engineering principles and practices related to landfill management and the waste industry
- Ability to operate and monitor environmental systems effectively
- Proficiency in the use of a GEM 5000 landfill gas analyzer and water level tape
- Knowledge of environmental systems (Leachate and Landfill Gas collection systems, Groundwater Diversion System, monitoring wells, stormwater ponds) and standard operating procedures and related legislation
- Strong organizational skills for accurate data collection and entry
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for sharing data with internal collaborators and external consultants
- Strong independent problem-solving skills for resolving routine operational issues

Conditions of Employment:
- Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a requirement for this position
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position

- This position involves a mix of indoor and outdoor activities, exposing you to various environmental and physical conditions
- Comfort with heights and ladder work is mandatory for stack sampling duties
