Job summary

Green Infrastructure Partners Inc. in Toronto is seeking an Environmental Coordinator to support and drive environmental compliance across the project lifecycle. This role works with the Technical Services team, construction crews, sub-contractors, and external Environmental Authorities.

You will implement the Environmental Management System, coordinate monitoring programs, and maintain relationships with authorities. A B.Sc.

Qualifications

  • B.Sc. degree in Environmental Engineering or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of Construction industry experience required.
  • Transit Project experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and related laws.
  • Results-driven with ability to deliver in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support and drive environmental compliance across the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate environmental issues and monitoring programs daily.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Environmental Authorities and stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with the Project Agreement and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide direction on permits, regulations, and environmental obligations.
  • Develop and maintain an ISO 14001-compliant health and environmental management system.
  • Assist with applications for environmental permits and manage submissions.
  • Oversee environmental aspects of project design and coordination with Technical Services.
  • Monitor training requirements and report on environmental performance.

Environmental Coordinator

Summary

Reporting into the Assistant Project Manager, the Environmental Coordinator is responsible for supporting and driving environmental compliance, and overall environmental risk management across the project lifecycle. This role plays a critical part in the Project Quality & Environmental Function and works closely with the Technical Services team, construction crews, sub-contractors, and external Environmental Authorities.

Primary Scope Of Role
  • Ensure the day-to-day implementation of the Environmental Management System and auditing and reporting its performance.
  • Coordinating all environmental issues associated with the Project on a day-to-day basis, including overseeing the environmental monitoring program.
  • Establishing and maintaining working relationships with relevant Environmental Authorities and Interested Parties.
  • Ensure environmental issues and requirements are met in accordance with the Project Agreement.
  • Provide direction, support, and leadership to the project team in all matters relating to environmental regulations, permits and requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain an effective health environmental management system for the project, in conformance with the ISO 14001 standard requirements.
  • Support the project team in the preparation and submission of applications for environmental permits, and their management.
  • Oversee the environmental aspects of the project design.
  • Work closely with the Technical Services team to ensure all environmental aspects are addressed and project schedules are met.
  • Coordinate with environmental sub-contractors to provide specialty input and direction.
  • Analyze and identify leading and lagging trends to assist in environmental protection and compliance.
  • Participate in and/or provide direction to others conducting environmental considerations, review site needs, including identify and implement corrective actions to ensure compliance and knowledge.
  • Compile quarterly and annual reports to update ongoing environmental processes and address current issues.
  • Ensure compliance with all related environmental activities and identify and manage risks; verifies and monitors associated training requirements.
  • Implementation of Design-Builder’s environmental obligations set out in the Contract.
  • Ensure environmental issues are addressed and requirements are met in accordance with the Contract and all Environmental Reference Documents
Position Requirements
  • B.Sc. degree in Environmental Engineering or a related field
  • 3-5 years of Construction industry experience required.
  • Experience in working on a Transit Project would be preferred.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations, and other relevant laws and regulations.
  • Results-driven with an ability to deliver success in a fast-paced environment.
  • Outcome focused, critical thinker with the ability to analyze and visualize to ensure continuous improvement across our business.
  • Ability to connect and interact with people to seek different perspectives.
  • Superb communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Demonstrate versatility and resourcefulness in overcoming business challenges.

  • Expected Base Salary: $70,000-$85,000 per year. The actual base salary will depend on several factors including experience, qualifications, internal equity, work location and market expectations.
