Job summary

Pintail Environmental Consulting Inc. is seeking an Environmental Consultant based in Alberta for a mix of field and office work.

The role may be contracted or full-time and requires conducting biophysical assessments and preparing regulatory submissions across Alberta and western Canada. The successful candidate will lead projects, mentor staff, travel as needed, and engage with clients while upholding Pintail’s safety standards.

Qualifications

• University degree in biology or environmental sciences.
• 6+ years of Alberta consulting experience.

Responsibilities

About the Position

Pintail is looking for an Environmental Consultant to join our team. The position is Alberta-based and will be a mix of field and office-based work (home office) This position can either be a Contract or Full-time position.

The duties of the successful candidate will include, but may not be limited to:

• Conducting biophysical assessments (e.g., wetlands, rare plants, native grassland, detailed site assessments, fisheries, wildlife surveys, etc.) for varying project types.
• Complete desktop wetland and vegetation community delineations.
• Compiling a variety of reports and regulatory applications to satisfy different industries and regulatory requirements.
• Undertake and assist with the preparation and submission of different environmental regulatory applications (e.g., AER, AEPA, Water Act, Public Lands Act, ECCC, DFO, etc.).
• Assist with proposals and cost estimates.
• Assist in growing and expanding the company’s capacity and services to help our existing clients and to develop new relationships.
• Lead and coordinate other team members and mentor junior staff.
• Uphold safety procedures and practices of Pintail and Pintail’s clients.

Preferred Qualifications

The qualifications and skills of the successful candidate will include, but may not be limited to:

• A university degree or college diploma in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Sciences, or related subject.
• A minimum of 6 years of previous consulting experience in Alberta.
• Knowledge of and experience with provincial and federal environmental regulations.
• Experience with the regulatory environment related to oil and gas, renewable energy, municipalities, land development, and transportation industries.
• Experience with the Alberta Wetland Policy requirements, including ABWRET.
• Candidate who is an Authenticating Wetland Practitioner would be a huge asset.
• Technical knowledge in conducting different biophysical assessments (e.g., wetlands, rare plants, general vegetation, weeds, native grassland, wildlife surveys, etc.) throughout Alberta and western Canada.
• Knowledgeable about plant species found in Alberta and western Canada.
• Experience with conducting post-construction monitoring of wetlands, vegetation communities, etc.
• Proficient with Microsoft programs (e.g., Word, Excel, etc.)
• Proficient with ArcPro / Arc Online, Field Maps App and Survey 1-2-3.
• Ability to be an adaptive and strategic thinker.
• Willingness to travel.
• Willingness to work weekends as needed during the field season.
• Capable of undertaking strenuous field work through varying terrain.
• Proven ability to work as a team but also independently with minimal supervision.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
• Be self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
• Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative working style.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license.

Asset Experience

• Familiar with business development initiatives and managing client portfolios would be an asset.
• Experience with Ecological Land Classification systems in Alberta and western Canada.
• Experience in Saskatchewan, British Columbia, or other jurisdictions would be an asset.
• Up to date safety tickets (e.g.,Standard First Aid, H2S, Ground Disturbance Level II, WHIMS 2015, TDG, Bear Safety, etc.).
• Experience operating UTVs, ATVs, Argos and towing a trailer.
• Experience with the regulatory requirements for borrow pits/reservoirs would be an asset.
