Bird Construction seeks an Environmental and Sustainability Lead to manage day-to-day environmental and sustainability activities on projects in Ontario and beyond. You will oversee monitoring, approvals, and compliance, and lead the development of Environmental Management Systems to meet ISO certifications and regulatory requirements.

The role requires 7–10 years of experience, strong knowledge of environmental laws, and proven ability to coordinate with stakeholders and regulators while

Qualifications

  • 7–10 years of work experience with a specialization in environmental studies or related discipline.
  • Knowledge of environmental legislative requirements and Ontario/Canada regulations.
  • Experience obtaining environmental approvals and dealing with regulators.
  • Strong problem-solving, cost-effective decision-making, and client liaison skills.

Responsabilités

  • Manage day-to-day environmental and sustainability issues on the project in accordance with the Environmental Management Plan and approvals.
  • Oversee environmental monitoring, reporting, and follow-up programs; conduct weekly inspections and site walks.
  • Develop and implement Environmental Management Systems to ensure ISO compliance and regulatory adherence.
  • Provide guidance on non-compliance issues, advise on improvements, and mentor project staff.

Environmental and Sustainability LeadThe Environmental and Sustainability Lead shall have defined authority for ensuring the day‑to‑day implementation of the Works and the Maintenance associated with the Environmental Management Plan.What You Will Be Working OnManaging all environmental and sustainability issues associated with the Project on a day‑to‑day basis, including overseeing the environmental monitoring and follow‑up program in accordance with the Environmental Management Plan and Approvals;Establishing and maintaining working relationships with relevant Internal and External Stakeholders;Develop and implement Environmental and Sustainability Management Systems to ensure compliance with ISO certification and regulatory requirementsProvide advice and recommendations for improving environmental protection and correcting any inefficient practices and/or issues of non‑compliance.Management of projects of varying complexity involving soil and groundwater characterization, environmental compliance, environmental management, health and safety management, designated substances and hazardous materials, and remedial system design and implementationEnsure environmental issues are addressed and requirements are met in accordance with the Environmental Approvals and this Project Agreement;Support and maintain working relationships with relevant First NationsMonitor site activities to ensure environmental compliance; completing weekly inspections, toolbox talks and daily site walks.Management of personnel and resourcesTracking costs and managing budgetsSupervising less experienced staff on a project basis and in some cases, providing technical direction and mentoringPromoting team effort and collaborationWhat We Are Looking For7-10 years of work related experience combined with post-secondary education with a specialization in environmental studies, or related discipline.Knowledge of environmental legislative requirements.Experience working with stakeholders.Experience obtaining environmental approvals, dealing with regulatory authorities and meeting environmental compliance obligations.Solid knowledge of environmental laws, regulations and guidelines as they apply to environmental and construction projects in Ontario (and other parts of Canada as applicable on a project basis)Sound judgment and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and manage cost effective, practical solutions to client problems and/or potential non-compliance situationsA strong commitment to teamwork; excellent verbal and interpersonal skills are required with preference given to demonstrated aptitude for client liaison and multi-disciplinary communicationComputer proficiency with Microsoft Office productsValid Ontario Driver's licenseFor Those Who Seek to RedefineThe greatest achievements in history are borne from the greatness within people – where human potential meets vision, and passion fuels evolution.
