Job summary

YVR is seeking an Environmental Analyst in the Environment Department to support the Climate & Environment program and the Roadmap to Net Zero Emissions by 2030, contributing to impactful environmental projects at the airport.

You will lead sustainability initiatives, perform data collection and modelling for energy, emissions, water and waste, and advise on sustainable building practices while ensuring regulatory compliance and strong stakeholder collaboration.

Qualifications

  • At least four years’ experience conducting environmental studies, research and monitoring.
  • Proficient computer skills including word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with stakeholders and strong presentation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including report writing.

The Climate and Environment department is responsible for executing YVR’s Environmental Management plan, including reducing our carbon emissions, increasing waste diversion, conserving water and protecting the ecosystem on Sea Island. We also execute YVR’s Noise Management Plan, balancing the need for safe, convenient 24-hour travel with enjoyable urban living.

Position Overview

We have a permanent, full-time opportunity for an Environmental Analyst in the Environment Department. Reporting to the Manager, Climate & Environment, the successful candidate will be a key member of a multidisciplinary team who is passionate about creating environmental change and is looking for an opportunity to work on interesting and varied environmental projects.

Key responsibilities include:

The successful candidate will use a unique combination of analytical expertise and relationship-building skills to lead and support environmental sustainability initiatives across the airport. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing and implementing environmental conservation and reduction strategies that support the Airport Authority's Environmental Management Plan and Roadmap to Net Zero Emissions by 2030, including greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting, emissions reporting, and net zero initiatives aligned with recognized standards (e.g., ISO and Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)).
  • Performing data collection, quality assurance, analysis, and complex modelling related to energy, emissions, carbon, water, waste, and hazardous materials management, including Scope 3 emissions and lifecycle assessments (LCA), to support environmental reporting, program development, and decision-making.
  • Providing environmental expertise throughout the planning, design, construction, and operation of airport facilities, incorporating sustainable building and infrastructure practices (e.g., LEED and Envision) while ensuring compliance with applicable federal, provincial, and municipal environmental regulations.
  • Promoting environmental sustainability through employee engagement, education, and awareness initiatives that encourage sustainable behaviours, including green transportation and active commuting programs.
  • Collaborating with airport employees, project teams, regulators, and community representatives to integrate sustainability considerations into airport operations and strategic initiatives, advancing YVR as a leader in environmental stewardship.
Key qualifications include:
  • At least four years’ experience conducting environmental studies, research and monitoring, supplemented by an undergraduate degree in natural science, environmental studies or engineering; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • A keen analytical ability and proficient computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Proven ability to develop strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders and demonstrated skills and experience in conducting effective presentations and training programs.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated excellence in report writing.
  • Knowledge of federal, provincial and local environmental legislation.
  • Experience with energy, air quality, waste management and hazardous materials management; experience in other areas of environmental management an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic setting with a focus on results.

Although not required, French language skills are an asset as we are committed to providing bilingual services to our visitors and passengers.
