Environment & Regulatory Field Coordinator, Christina Lake, AB

This role will report to the Manager of Environment and assist in leading our sustainability and environmental practices. Areas of focus include: compliance assurance, environmental management, emergency preparedness and response relating to operations at our Christina Lake SAGD facility. The successful candidate will engage and collaborate across a variety of functions of the organization and other stakeholders to influence and champion environmental initiatives.

This position is a Fly-In, Fly-out position, working on a 7/7rotation (Tuesday-Tuesday), flying out of Calgary or Edmonton.

Your day-to-day will include:

  • Field Monitoring & Compliance: Conduct and oversee environmental monitoring programs, including surface water, groundwater, soil, air, and wildlife.
  • Regulatory Support: Assist with data collection and reporting in compliance with various Alberta Energy Regulator Directives, Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act Approvals and other regulatory requirements.
  • Waste and Spills Management: Support waste management across operating areas, spill prevention, response coordination, and site remediation efforts.
  • Environmental Inspections: Perform regular site inspections to ensure adherence to environmental standards and best practices, while providing support to incident reviews or audits.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Liaise with internal departments (e.g., drilling, operations, site services) to identify and mitigate environmental risks.
  • Data Management: Compile, analyze, and report on environmental data, maintaining accurate records to support audits and reporting obligations.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in the development and implementation of environmental management systems and site-specific procedures.

What you will bring to MEG:

  • Post Secondary education with a bachelor's degree preferred in environmental sciences or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant fieldwork experience in a similar role coordinating environmental and regulatory compliance, preferably within the oil sands or energy sector.
  • Competent with relevant environmental regulations in Alberta.
  • Applicable health and safety training (H2S Alive, First Aid, WHIMIS & TDG).
  • A diligent work ethic and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Emergency response/spill response training or other emergency management qualifications.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license (and drivers abstract).
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
