Job Description

PRESTO is an electronic transit fare payment system in the Greater Toronto, Hamilton and Ottawa areas that eliminates the need for tickets, passes and cash. PRESTO serves more than 5 million customers across 11 transit agencies and processes over $2.5 billion in fares through 67 million boardings per month (pre-pandemic). Today, PRESTO offers one of the most globally advanced fare payment systems in the world having delivered new ways to pay for customers, including real time PRESTO Contactless with credit and Interac debit and PRESTO in Mobile Wallet across its transit agency clients, including the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC). Enhancing the customer experience through continuous improvement while working with our transit agency clients to support their needs, and maintaining a system that performs exceptionally, continue to drive PRESTO toward making transit better for all.

Our PRESTO (Payments) office is looking for an Enterprise Architect who can provide leadership in technology architecture by identifying and developing capabilities, building domain architectures, using industry-standard documentation methods, making architectural design recommendations/decisions, and developing detailed designs for a high-volume payment processing, FinTech, or similar environment. As a member of the PRESTO Technology and Integration Department, the Enterprise Architect is responsible for leading efforts to align business needs and capabilities to meet our Enterprise Architecture strategy, technology roadmap, and transformation.

What will I be doing?

  • Collaborates with Enterprise Architects and other stakeholders to design PRESTO Enterprise framework to define architecture standards and reference architecture.
  • Creation and maintenance of technology reference architectures in line with industry best practice
  • Assists with translating business capabilities into technology design solutions to optimize people, process, and technology to provide value to PRESTO customers, clients, and partners
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to identify future business needs to ensure the quality, reliability, and predictability of PRESTO core IT operations
  • Anticipate emerging business trends, regulatory/risk issues and conduct market scans in business technologies and practices to determine solutions that are fit for purpose.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve efficiencies, effectiveness, and capabilities in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Creates detailed integration architectures patterns for new capabilities into the existing PRESTO IT capability stack.
  • Create and maintain business capability, data, process, and technology inventories. Work with multiple capability and functional teams to gather and document the structure of PRESTO business and technology landscape
  • Ensures Architectural documentation conforms with documentation standards and guidance – Architecture Decision Records, Archimate models, and other artifacts
  • Works with the solution and technical architects to deliver enterprise architecture artifacts needed for End-to-End Enterprise Architecture & Solution Architecture deliverables to ensure technology resilience is designed and built into all solutions
  • Review solution architectures and detailed designs to ensure they comply with industry standards and policies
  • Engages stakeholders to act; Serves as a source of expert advice and frames information in a broader organizational context.
  • Identifies and leads problem resolution for project/program complex requirements related to issues at all levels.
  • Creates a culture of continuous improvement to ensure high-quality service standards and timely delivery are achieved.
  • Fosters a safe and healthy work environment; ensures project teams, contractors and trades comply with health, safety, and environmental standards that meet or exceed legislated requirements
  • Drives innovation by reviewing and analyzing processes to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement
  • Provides cost-benefit analysis to business cases
  • Leads and mentor others and provides advice and technical expertise, while helping to develop the knowledge base within the team
  • Develop and maintain an environment of positive collaboration through strong working relationships and linkages between business units and departments; and between Metrolinx and others
  • Implement best practices in Enterprise Architecture by adapting the TOGAF framework and ArchiMate Modeling Standard to meet the organization's specific needs.
  • Manage and resolve architectural challenges spanning Business, Data, Application, Technology, and Security domains within the Enterprise Architecture.
  • Lead collaborative efforts to formulate policies, standards, and best practices across the domains.
  • Support the procurement, implementation and sustainment of the Enterprise Architecture Tool.


What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

  • Completion of a diploma in Computer Science or related field – or a combination of education, training, and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience working with payments technology or another similar high transaction volume, mission-critical environment as an Enterprise Architect or similar role in the analysis, design, and development of systems architecture
  • Enterprise Architecture expertise with broad technical knowledge across architecture domain disciplines including business, application, data, and technology.
  • Ability to work independently on initiatives with little oversight; motivated and willing to learn
  • Ability to document and solve problems using technology solutions
  • Ability to measure and communicate performance management to key stakeholders
  • Oral/written/presentation and organizational
  • Advanced cloud architect certification is preferred
  • Business Architecture certification is an asset
  • TOGAF certification is preferred
