Looking for a new and exciting job opportunity? We are looking for an Engineering Technologist to join the Reliability and Quality Assurance team within the Streetcar Maintenance Departmment.
What You Will Do
- You will provide technical support and expertise to those involved in the procurement, inspections, diagnoses, repairs, maintenance, overhaul, rebuilding, designing, improving and supporting of all operating systems associated with their specific area.
- You will diagnose, correct and eliminate non-routine complex failures on area specific systems; investigate and correct unusual, difficult or repeating problems on equipment; correct deficiencies with work methods, job plans, procedures, modifications etc.
- You will also diagnose and coordinate repairs on equipment, systems or structures; ensure stabilization of failures and determines the cause; ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards; suggest solutions or modifications; provide direction as required.
- You will plan, perform and coordinate preventative maintenance checks and services on equipment, systems, and structures, and ensure techniques have been applied according to written procedures, standards and best practices.
- You will ensure equipment, systems or structures are fully operational by coordinating and/or performing relevant checks, and other relevant inspections; develop and/or modify tests under direction, ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
- You will provide technical guidance and advice on selection and purchase of equipment, systems or structures, service requirements, specialized training requirements, safety issues and incidents, and other issues related to area of specialty.
- You will prepare various written reports, test reports as well as general, technical and occasionally budgetary correspondence related to assignments.
- You will create documents related to various policies, processes, and procedures / work instructions. These documents may include instruction for inspection, repair, exchange, modification, diagnosis techniques, and analyses (e.g., cost, life cycle, commonality) of different revenue and non-revenue equipment.
- Additionally, you will research, develop, produce and deliver suitable training programs for employees on departmental Standard Operating Procedures and other assigned topics; prepare training materials, documents and records.
- You will perform a variety of administrative and supervisory duties, as required (e.g., planning, organizing, assigning tasks, scheduling, interviewing).
- You may be required to rotate into other Engineering Technologist positions at other locations within the Streetcar Maintenance department, specifically Reliability and Quality Assurance and Operations support, based on operational needs and training and development initiatives. Additionally, you may be required to work various shifts and off days.

What Qualifications Do You Bring
- Your education will consist of a completed post-secondary college diploma or university degree in Electrical /Electronic or Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related discipline, or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
- Additionally, registered or eligible to register with PEO or OACETT certification as an Engineering Technologist is considered a valuable asset.
- Your application will reveal experience with rail vehicles maintenance.
- Your application will reveal good knowledge of engineering design and costing principles, methods and procedures developed through several years of directly related work-experience.
- Your application will reveal specific knowledge required, with demonstrated ability, to diagnose and correct faults relating to electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems/components utilized on revenue rail vehicles and associated maintenance equipment.
- Your application will reveal experience, with demonstrated ability, in directing and training staff and union personnel on various aspects of work, such as fault isolation techniques, equipment modifications, project activity and correct procedure performance.
- Your application will also reveal experience in developing and delivering effective and engaging in-house technical training programs.
- You must have excellent technical writing skills to prepare technical documents including maintenance, test/failure, exchange and standard operating procedures, and bulletins.
- You must also have effective organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with supervisory, technical and trades personnel in the carhouses, shops and engineering groups regarding various vehicle maintenance issues, and with representatives of external supply organizations regarding vehicle specifications, modifications and equipment problems.
- Your application will also reveal proficiency in the use of computers and applications, including MS Office, and digital graphic image manipulation, and familiarity with, or able to quickly learn, the data and methodologies of the Material Management System and rail vehicle work order systems such as the Streetcar/Subway/SRT Maintenance System.
- You must have a valid class “G” driver’s license for the Province of Ontario.
