The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) is looking for (2) Engineering Technologist(s) to join our team!

What You Will Do
  • Provide technical support and expertise to those involved in the procurement, inspections, training, diagnoses, repairs, maintenance, overhaul, rebuilding, designing, improving and supporting of all operating systems associated with their specific area.
  • Provide technical expertise regarding risk analysis, failure mode effects and criticality analysis (FMECA), root cause analysis (RCA), failure reporting and corrective action system (FRACAS), Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) related to reliability engineering.
  • Diagnose, correct and eliminate non-routine complex failures on area-specific systems; investigate and correct unusual, difficult or repeating problems on equipment.
  • Coordinate repairs on equipment, systems or structures; ensure stabilization of failures and determine the cause; ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Plan, perform and coordinate preventative maintenance checks and services on equipment, systems, and structures.
  • Ensure equipment, systems or structures are fully operational by coordinating and/or performing relevant checks and inspections.
  • Provide technical guidance and advice on selection and purchase of equipment, systems or structures, service requirements, and safety issues.
  • Prepare various written reports, test reports, and technical correspondence related to assignments.
  • Create documents related to various policies, processes, and procedures/work instructions.
  • Research, develop, produce and deliver suitable training programs for employees on departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Perform a variety of administrative and supervisory duties, as required.
  • Rotate into other Engineering Technologist positions at other locations within the Streetcar Maintenance department, based on operational needs and training and development initiatives.

What Qualifications Do You Bring
  • Completed post-secondary college diploma or university degree in Electrical/Electronic or Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related discipline, or equivalent education, training, and experience.
  • Registered or eligible to register with PEO or OACETT certification as an Engineering Technologist is considered a valuable asset.
  • Experience with rail vehicles maintenance.
  • Good knowledge of engineering design and costing principles, methods, and procedures developed through several years of directly related work experience.
  • Specific knowledge required to diagnose and correct faults relating to electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems/components utilized on revenue rail vehicles and associated maintenance equipment.
  • Experience in directing and training staff and union personnel on various aspects of work.
  • Experience in developing and delivering effective in-house technical training programs.
  • Excellent technical writing skills to prepare technical documents.
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and applications, including MS Office.
  • Valid class “G” driver’s license for the Province of Ontario.
