The City of Kawartha Lakes invites applicants to join our dynamic team as an Engineering Technician! The Engineering and Corporate Assets department is seeking a permanent, full-time Engineering Technician. Reporting to the Supervisor of Environmental Capital Project Management and under the guidance of a senior staff, this position is responsible for carrying out various engineering capital projects and tasks related to water, wastewater and solid waste infrastructure.

Job Title Engineering Technician

Wage $37.44 - $40.50 per hour (2025)

Reports To Supervisor, Environmental Capital Project Management

Department Engineering & Corporate Assets, Infrastructure Design & Construction

Location 322 Kent St. W, Lindsay, ON

Hours Normal Working Hours 40 hours per week

Other General office environment with travel throughout the City of Kawartha Lakes in accordance with job requirements

Job Description

  • Conduct field investigation and review background information to set scope and parameters of capital projects related to water, wastewater and solid waste infrastructure;
  • Assist with the preparation of drawings, specifications, estimates and contract documents such as Request for Tender, Request for Proposal, Request for Quotation;
  • Coordinate and oversee Consultants and Contractors to manage capital projects in all stages of design and construction;
  • Perform technical reviews and provide input, comment or recommendation on design, specifications, assessments, studies, plans/drawings, materials, proposals, tenders, agreements, and reports;
  • Perform or coordinate engineering inspection services on construction projects;
  • Perform financial administrative activities including processing of payment certificates, negotiation of additional work claims, and assessment of contract work in accordance with contractual and statutory obligations;
  • Collect and update field data for 'as constructed' plans;
  • Perform pre-engineering and construction surveys and drafting for capital improvement projects;
  • Maintain plans, maps, drawings and other records reflecting the municipal infrastructure;
  • Research and prepare engineering reports and technical memoranda;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Skills/Education Required

  • Post-secondary diploma in Civil Engineering or a related field;
  • Minimum 2 years of related progressive experience, preferably in a municipal environment;
  • Working toward certification with the Ontario Association of Certified Technicians and Technologists;
  • Proficiency in Total Station Surveys and layout;
  • Experience in water, wastewater and solid waste infrastructure design and construction;
  • Demonstrated professional and ethical responsibility to protect privacy, use confidential information appropriately, treat sensitive situations with appropriate degree of tact and discretion;
  • Demonstrated customer-service and interpersonal skills at a level to develop and to maintain cooperative/collaborative working relationships both within and outside the organization;
  • Excellent time-management skills with the ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines, and the ability to deal with multiple demands;
  • Excellent written communication skills with attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills with the ability to work independently and in a team environment;
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative consistently with commitment to quality improvement, sharing process improvement initiatives with management;
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and abide by municipal policies and procedures;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, the internet, and any other related software;
  • Possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's Licence,;
  • Upon a conditional offer of employment, a Criminal Record Check will be required;
