As an Engineering Specialist in Controls, you will lead problem-solving to assist plants and implementation teams in resolving tooling, equipment, and conveyor performance issues and downtime. You will utilize and leverage Vis Plant monitoring software to review cycle times of automation, as well as review and follow up on automation projects and installations.
Coordinate resources to find root causes and fixes, manage and break down problems into items that can be validated using proper validation methods.
Be highly committed to continuous improvement, applying innovative solutions with a customer-first mindset.
Program new installations of automation, machinery, material handling, and robots.
Use Vis Plant monitoring software to review cycle times of automation, and follow up on automation projects and installations.
Update program equipment for engineering changes and improvements, and program backups for machinery and automation.
Troubleshoot PLC, robot, and other automation problems.
Review risk assessments and evaluate equipment safety as part of a team.
Communicate effectively with hourly team members, leaders, business partners, and customers.
Administer the negotiated collective agreement consistently and effectively.
Work rotating shifts and hours, including nights and weekends.
Use/program Allen Bradley Panel View, AB Servo, and AB VFD drives.
Familiarity with VFDs, Servo Drives, Armor starts, encoders, network/ethernet.
Experience with PLC/CNC (Siemens/Allen-Bradley), VFD, Servo, Profinet, ABB, and FANUC Robots.
Ability to read blueprints, modify electrical schematics, and use AutoCAD.
Continuously evaluate equipment for process improvements and troubleshoot issues.
Apply Lean Tools such as 5S, Kanban, Poka-Yoke, and Value Stream Mapping.
Understand 8D, FMEA, and DMAIC processes.
Familiarity with TQM and Kaizen methods.
Knowledge of simulation modeling and visual factory management is preferred.
Strong understanding of networking, including DH+, Ethernet, and remote IO.
Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or GED.
Fundamental working knowledge of PLC logic and controls.
Electrical background (electrician or technician).
At least 2 years of Controls experience.
Preferred Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in a technical or engineering field.
Experience with conveyor system programming.
Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience.
Experience in a unionized manufacturing environment.
