Job summary

Cementation Americas is seeking an Engineer in North Bay, Ontario, to contribute to underground mining and heavy industrial designs. Hybrid Work Schedule: Remote Option: Monday & Friday / In-Office: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.
Job Type: Full Time, Permanent, 40HRs/WK.
Salary Range: $70,000.00 to $85,000.00

About this Position
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Health and Safety
  • Work in compliance with all Health and Safety rules and regulations for Cementation.
  • Be aware of any health and safety hazards or infractions and report the same to Health and Safety Department.
  • Ensure all applicable safety codes and regulations are met by appropriate design and use of technology.
  • Be a champion for safety, advocating safe behaviour while incorporating safety into the designs produced by the group.
General Duties and Responsibilities
  • This description lists the core responsibilities and duties of the position. Additional duties deemed to be within the incumbents' capabilities, on an as required basis, may be assigned by management.
  • Collaborate with Project Services and Operations to produce "Best For Project" designs that are safe, reflect the Client's operability requirements first, and are constructible.
  • Learn and become an expert in the operation of the Engineering software used by the group.
  • Regularly review "state of the art" software/hardware industry developments, advise group management.
  • Review and become familiar with departmental standards, ensuring conformance with current codes, standards and mining regulations.

  • Become familiar with Discipline Specific standards including specifications, design basis and criteria templates, design spreadsheets, workflow procedures, and change management forms.
  • As required, attend design review meetings, answering questions related to design basis and criteria.
  • Working with the Engineer of Record, complete and file all necessary calculations to ensure compliance with codes, standards, regulations, special industry guidelines, company and Client standards.
  • Working with the Engineer of Record, select Structural System and components, completing all necessary calculations to ensure compliance with codes, standards, regulations, special industry guidelines, Cementation and Client standards.
  • Use the most current versions of codes, standards, regulations, Company and Client standards.
  • Participate in design reviews, ensuring that the plant completely satisfies its fundamental purpose while being operated and maintained safely and efficiently.
  • Participate in design reviews ensuring that regulatory, safety and client operability requirements are met, and collaborating with Operations to ensure that the plant will be built in the safest, most efficient and cost effective manner possible.
  • At various project phases, complete timely review and mark-up of drawings, ensuring collaboration with other Disciplines, Project Managers, Project Services and Operations, Designers and Quality Group to ensure timely "one time only" reviews. Ensure compliance with Engineering Design calculations, codes, standards and regulations.
  • Complete code and math checks of your own work. As requested, complete code and math checks of other Engineers.

  • During construction, assess and provide technical recommendations in response to Field Enquiries.
  • In providing Field solutions, understand and enforce Change Management Principles, use Cementation standard forms, ensuring that project scope, budget and schedule are respected at all times.
  • Conduct Quality Assurance shop or on-site reviews of fabricated or constructed work to assure that Quality Control measures have effectively delivered work that complies with regulatory, Cementation and Client requirements.
  • Under the Engineer of Record's supervision, complete general reviews of Erection and Shop drawings to assure compliance with project requirements and sufficient coordination at interfaces to other vendor-supplied items, and to Cementation-designed items.
  • Under the Engineer of Record's supervision, prepare and Issue Shop and On-site review reports, complete with observations and recommendations. Follow up as necessary to ensure that recommendations have been satisfactorily addressed.
  • As necessary, assist the Engineer of Record in the preparation of project close-out documentation, in compliance with regulatory, Client and Cementation requirements.
  • Through the fabrication and construction phases, assist the Engineer of Record to assure that all tests, inspections and measurements mandated by regulation or by the Engineer of Record have been completed and satisfied and have been satisfactorily addressed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Travel Requirements
  • This position has the requirement for occasional travel to our project sites and offices.
  • Travel period may range from one day to several weeks.
  • Travel may include overseas assignments.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering Degree or equivalent, accredited by the Professional Engineer of Ontario, or other Canadian Professional Engineering
  • Registered as an Engineer in Training with the Professional Engineers of Ontario, or other Canadian Professional Engineering
  • Relevant work term experience in discipline-specific design of medium to large underground and heavy industrial
  • Previous relevant work experience in Mining or Heavy Construction
  • 0 to 5 years relevant experience
