Job summary

Cementation Americas is seeking a Senior Designer to develop Best for Project designs for permanent mine facility infrastructure and temporary sinking systems. You will conceptualize, create, revise, and finalize drawings and 3D models that are safe, constructible, and compliant with standards.

Collaborate with Design Project Lead and Engineer of Record to ensure operability, safety, and client requirements are met while producing accurate documentation and model updates.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years of drafting and design experience.
  • Post-secondary Technician or Technology Diploma required.
  • Engineering Degree considered an asset.
  • OACETT registration considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Perform design and drafting for permanent and temporary underground mine works.
  • Develop preliminary layouts and concept designs to finished drawings.
  • Create accurate 2D drawings and 3D models per standards and specs.
  • Prepare site plans, general arrangements, elevations and details for surface and underground works.
  • Review drawings and calculations for accuracy and completeness.
  • Identify design risks and opportunities to improve scope, schedule and cost.

Salary Range: $90,000 to $110,000

About this Position

In coordination with the Design Project Lead and in collaboration with the Engineer of Record, the Senior Designer develops "Best for Project" designs for permanent mine facility infrastructure and temporary sinking systems. This role involves conceptualizing, creating, revising, and finalizing drawings and 3D models that are safe, constructible, compliant with standards, and aligned with client operability requirements.

Health and Safety
  • Work in full compliance with all Cementation Health and Safety rules and regulations.
  • Identify health and safety hazards, unsafe conditions or infractions and report them to the Health and Safety Department.
  • Ensure all applicable safety codes and regulations are incorporated into design through appropriate design and use of technology.
  • Act as a safety champion by promoting safe behaviours and integrating safety into all designs produced by the group.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform design and drafting for both permanent and temporary works related to underground mine shafts, facilities, infrastructure, and associated equipment.
  • Develop preliminary layouts, sketches, and conceptual designs through to finished drawings.
  • Produce accurate, clear, and compliant 2D drawings and 3D models in accordance with Cementation Engineering Standards and project specifications.
  • Prepare design documentation, including site plans, general arrangements, plans, elevations, sections, and details for surface and underground works.
  • Ensure dimensional accuracy, proper fit-up, constructability, and compliance with company, client, and regulatory requirements.
  • Review and check drawings, calculations, and vendor documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Conduct bulk material take-offs and quantity calculations.
  • Research design methodologies and previous project drawings to promote efficiency and consistency.
  • Identify design risks and opportunities to optimize scope, schedule, cost, and safety.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma.
  • Post-secondary Technician or Technology Diploma (required).
  • Engineering Degree (considered an asset).
  • Minimum 8 years of drafting and design experience.
  • Previous experience in heavy construction, mining, or fabrication environments.
  • OACETT registration (considered an asset).
Assets
  • Expert proficiency in: AutoCAD, Advance Steel, Vault (latest versions)
  • Working knowledge of at least one 3D parametric platform: Inventor, Plant 3D, or equivalent
  • Autodesk Inventor, Revit, and DOCS (considered assets)
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and OneNote
Travel Requirements:
  • Occasional travel to project sites to support construction activities
