Job summary

The City of Kamloops is seeking a permanent, full-time Engineering Design Technician I who is proficient in AutoCAD and Autodesk Civil 3D to complete complex municipal design and drafting projects. Your projects will revolve around designs such as roads/sidewalks/muti-use paths/roundabouts, water/sanitation mains and storm drainage featuring green infrastructure.

We are looking for a well-organized, motivated individual who has a high degree of visual and mental concentration.

Qualifications

• Two-year CAD and Drafting program or a Civil Engineering diploma.
• At least six months municipal design experience using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Registration as Trainee, CTech, or AScT with ASTTBC.
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence.

Responsibilities

• Complete complex municipal design and drafting projects including roads, water, drainage.
• Prepare designs and drawings using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Collaborate with team to meet project deadlines.

Position Overview

The City of Kamloops is looking for a highly skilled permanent, full-time Engineering Design Technician I who is proficient in using AutoCAD and Autodesk Civil 3D design software to complete complex municipal design and drafting projects. Your projects will revolve around designs such as roads/sidewalks/muti-use paths/roundabouts, water/sanitation mains and storm drainage featuring green infrastructure. We are looking for a well-organized, motivated individual who has a high degree of visual and mental concentration.

The successful candidate must have the following qualifications:

• Completion of a two-year Computer Aided Design and Drafting program OR a Diploma in Civil Engineering.
• Minimum six (6) months’ previous experience in municipal design using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D-based civil design software (with an emphasis on water, sanitary, drainage and roads).
• Registered as a Trainee, Certified Technician (CTech), or Applied Science Technologist (AScT) with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia (ASTTBC).
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence or equivalent.

This is a unionized position with CUPE Local 900; check out our Collective Agreement (2024 - 2025) for full details (ratified 2026 Collective Agreement coming soon). As this is a unionized position, all qualifications must be met in order to be shortlisted for the position.

Hours & Days of Work

Monday - Friday8:00 AM - 4:00 PM (summer)8:30 AM - 4:30 PM (winter)With the ability to apply for a modified schedule (8:00 AM - 4:30 PM) allowing for one day off every third week.
