Job summary

Magna Powertrain in Vaughan, Ontario is seeking a Student / Co-Op engineer to support product design, drawing creation, and continuous improvement initiatives. The role emphasizes CAD design, documentation, and collaboration across teams to advance powertrain projects.

You will contribute to drawings from concept to final, coordinate trials and vendor activities, and assist with layout and equipment commissioning. The position offers hands-on experience in a global auto-tech environment.

Qualifications

  • 3rd or 4th year engineering student or equivalent.
  • Some product design and CAD design experience; proficiency in mechanical drafting.
  • Strong documentation, organizational and project management skills.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Fluent English communication, both written and spoken.
  • Good organizational skills; self-starter, team player and active listener.

Responsibilities

  • Create, update, review, and release drawings from concepts to final; consider tolerances, GD&T, and MSM/Customer specifications.
  • Coordinate trials, analyze data, and follow up.
  • Coordinate outside vendors for testing and parts supply.
  • Conduct cycle-time studies and identify bottlenecks.
  • Perform root-cause analysis and data-driven problem solving.
  • Assist in equipment design, build, installation, and commissioning.
  • Help with workcell layout and improvement projects.
  • Support continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Maintain filing system and participate in Health & Safety quizzes.
  • Provide engineering support to other departments as directed.

Job Responsibilities:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3rd or 4th year of University working towards an Engineering degree or equivalent
  • Some product design and CAD design experience, proficiency in mechanical drafting
  • Strong documentation, organizational & project management skills
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving & analytical skills
  • Must be able to communicate fluently in both written and spoken English.
  • Must have good organizational skills, be a self-starter, team player and an active listener

Vacancy: Immediate, Open Position

Annual Compensation Range: $25/hour

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drawing creation, update, review, release, etc. from rough concepts up to detail/final drawings considering tolerance/fits, GD&T, and MSM/Customer specifications.
  • Trial coordination, data analysis, and follow up
  • Coordination of outside vendors (sub-contracted testing, processing of parts, supply of components, etc.)
  • Cycle time studies and bottleneck identification
  • Problem solving including root cause investigation, data analysis, and presentation
  • Assist in equipment design, build, installation, and commissioning
  • Assist in workcell layout and improvement projects
  • Ergonomic assessment and improvement
  • Tooling and gauging design, build, and implementation
  • Shipping of parts, tooling, etc.
  • Support with continuous improvement, suggestion program, quality improvement, and cost reduction projects
  • Initiate and embrace company change
  • Maintain proper filing system to ensure all information is properly stored and easily retrieved Comply and participate in monthly Health & Safety Quiz
  • Provide Engineering support to other departments as directed by the Engineering Manager or designate
