Job summary

The City of Kitchener is seeking a temporary Engineering and Design Technologist to work closely with survey and design teams. Engineering and Design Technologist

Job Status: Temporary Full-Time

Pay & Grade: $74,334 to $92,918 Annually Grade: 8

Hours of Work: 35 Hours per week

Initial location: Kitchener City Hall

Posting period: June 12, 2025 to June 26, 2025 (at 6:00pm)

Overview

As the Engineering Design Technologist, you will work closely with survey and design teams to create preliminary and detailed drawings for road reconstruction and municipal infrastructure replacements. You will conduct research, collect data, prepare contract documents, and provide support to consultants, contractors, and the public.

This position is temporary up to 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Research and compile data for detailed engineering designs in AutoDesk Civil 3D.
• Design drainage, pipe sizes, and layouts for municipal infrastructure.
• Collect utility, property boundary, and roadway profile data for design drawings.
• Prepare contract documents, including drawings, tender forms, and specifications.
• Estimate costs for capital projects.
• Create graphics and presentations as needed.
• Support and provide engineering info to stakeholders.
• Represent engineering in customer service and public meetings.
• Prepare 'as-recorded' drawings and maintain records.
• Manage plotters and scanners, including supplies and maintenance.
• Perform administrative duties related to engineering drawings and submissions.
• Participate in committees and working groups.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• 3-year diploma/degree in Civil Engineering Technology or related field.
• Registered C.E.T. with O.A.C.E.T.T. or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years' experience in sewer, water systems, and road design.
• Knowledge of surveying, design, and construction procedures.
• Proficiency in AutoDesk Civil 3D and engineering graphics software.
• Experience with municipal infrastructure drawings.
• Understanding of legal survey data and coordinate geometry.
• Strong problem-solving, customer service, and teamwork skills.
• Time management skills.
• Completion of courses in Road Design, Sewer, Watermain Design, and Inspection preferred.
• Reliable with a positive attitude.
