Job Description

Turner & Townsend Heery is seeking a Engineer/Senior Inspector for civil projects in Ontario, California.

The successful candidate will have the ability to perform all essential functions, including:

1. Monitoring and inspecting contractors' work to ensure proper construction methods.
2. Reviewing plans, specifications, submittals, drawings, change orders, and RFIs to ensure compliance with contract requirements in the field.
3. Preparing and maintaining documentation such as inspection logs, daily reports, force accounts, materials testing, and other records.
4. Drafting Construction Weekly Field Reports (CWPR) for review and distribution by the PM.
5. Maintaining digital photographic documentation of projects.
6. Taking or verifying field measurements/quantities for contract payments.
7. Coordinating and communicating construction activities among contractors, tenants, departments, and the public.
8. Participating or leading coordination discussions between survey teams and contractors.
9. Identifying construction issues and recommending solutions.
10. Reviewing initial project designs before plans are finalized and assisting with bid quantity take-offs.
11. Inspecting site conditions and ensuring proper use of TESC practices, reporting environmental issues.
12. Updating design plans/drawings based on changes during construction, documenting reasons for changes, and ensuring accuracy.
13. Coordinating material deliveries and logistics.
14. Tracking and documenting contractor work compliance, initiating NCRs as needed.
15. Managing project punch lists, cover inspections, and reporting progress.
16. Participating in planning, preconstruction, coordination, and progress meetings.
17. Monitoring change order work and signing off on work tickets.
18. Witnessing inspections and testing of materials and installations.
19. Coordinating with inspection agencies and verifying invoices.
20. Managing shutdown requests, issuing CAFs, and escorting visitors.
21. Monitoring hazardous materials handling.
22. Ensuring record drawings are current and participating in safety inspections.
23. Attending off-site testing and inspections as required.
24. Participating in cost reviews and negotiations.
25. Adhering to SOX controls where applicable.

Qualifications

Communication Skills

• Ability to analyze complex documents and respond effectively to sensitive issues.

Financial Knowledge

• Basic understanding of financial principles and calculating simple figures.

Reasoning Ability

Education and Experience

• BS in engineering or related field plus 4 years of experience, or other discipline with ICC or California Inspector certification and 5 years of inspection experience.
• 4-8 years of public works experience.
• Experience with municipal projects, small capital projects, tenant improvements, or renovations.
• Experience with JOC or DB projects.
• Desired experience with civil water projects, pipelines, reservoirs.

Certifications and Licenses

• CCM, ICC, or California Inspector certification, OSHA 10-hour Construction Safety.

Additional Information
