Job summary

Linamar Corporation is seeking an experienced Engineer - Project to manage complex manufacturing initiatives in Ontario. You will work under a program manager, act as a key customer contact, and coordinate with suppliers and internal teams to deliver on time and within budget while meeting quality standards.

You will lead APQP/CFM activities, drive process improvements, estimate cycle times, review FMEA, and support cross-functional teams to reduce downtime and waste.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years as a process/manufacturing engineer in a machining/manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of SPC methods, process and machine capability requirements, blueprint reading and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing
  • Working knowledge of APQP, CFM and PPAP processes
  • Practical knowledge of cutting tools, machining processes, materials & equipment
  • Experience with statistical analysis for machine and process capability studies
  • Ability to propose layouts of new equipment with core teams
  • Proficient in MS Office and CAD tools (Project, AutoCAD, SolidWorks)
  • Excellent problem solving and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Understanding of automotive automated assembly manufacturing processes
  • Ability to adapt to fast-paced environment and changing priorities

Responsibilities

  • Take new products from concept to production
  • Track program elements to meet budgets and timing commitments
  • Identify capital equipment sources and prepare approvals
  • Supervise buy-off and installation of equipment up to 100% PSHR
  • Lead APQP/CFM teams and document activities
  • Participate in continuous improvement based on KPIs
  • Specify tools and fixtures where required
  • Estimate cycle times with manufacturing engineers
  • Review Process FMEA and reduce high-risk numbers
  • Support in reducing line scrap and waste
  • Assist in SRED and WET activities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless process integration
  • Address and resolve manufacturing issues in real-time
  • Implement process improvements to boost productivity and reduce downtime
  • Create and maintain detailed SOPs and process docs
  • Knowledge of Pneumatics/Hydraulics and fixtures is beneficial

Liaison with suppliers and other internal departments to ensure program or project is completed on time and within budget, while meeting or exceeding customer quality and delivery standards. Offer guidance and support to process and manufacturing engineers

Responsibility
  • Take new products from the concept stage to production stage
  • Ensure all program elements are being tracked to ensure that budgets and timing commitments are maintained, and changes in programs status are effectively communicated to all stakeholders
  • Identify capital equipment sources and prepare all documents / presentations for PRB (Process Review Board’s) and FRB (Financial Approval board’s) approvals
  • Supervise buy-off and installation of equipment up to 100% PSHR completion
  • Lead APQP / CFM teams and record all activities
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts based on the feedback from external (CAT, SAT) and internal related performance indicators (monthly Stepping Stool).
  • Specify special tools and fixtures where required
  • In collaboration with manufacturing engineers, estimate cycle times for each operation in the process.
  • Review Process FMEA on regular basis and work with engineering and core teams to reduce high RPN numbers.
  • Support core teams to reduce lines scrap against plant targets
  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of SRED (Scientific Research and Experimental Development) and WET (Waste Elimination Tracker) activities
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams including production, maintenance, and quality assurance to ensure seamless integration of process improvements
  • Address and resolve manufacturing issues in real-time, including equipment malfunctions, process deviations, and quality concerns
  • Implement process improvements to enhance productivity, reduce waste/rejects, and minimize downtime/cycle time
  • Utilize data analysis techniques to identify trends, troubleshoot issues and make data driven decisions to optimize manufacturing processes
  • Create and maintain detailed process documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and process flow diagrams

Academic/Educational Requirements
  • A university degree in engineering or an equivalent experience working as a process or manufacturing engineer with a technical diploma or college certificate in manufacturing or industrial engineering.
  • Licensing by a provincial or territorial association of professional technicians / engineers as an asset
Required Skills/Experience
  • A minimum of four (4) year experience as a process or manufacturing engineer in a machining or manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of SPC methods, process and machine capability requirements, blueprint reading and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing
  • Working knowledge of APQP, CFM and PPAP process.
  • Practical knowledge of cutting tools, machining processes, materials & equipment.
  • Experience with the use of statistical analysis for machine and process capability studies.
  • Discuss proposed layouts of new equipment with core teams and their managers to ensure the requirements for all departments are considered.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in all applicable software applications (i.e. Microsoft Office including Project, AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
  • Ability to write monthly reports that address a variety of operational matters to present to management.
  • Strong understanding of automotive automated assembly manufacturing processes
  • Excellent problem solving skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross- functional teams
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
  • Machine design mentality, SolidWorks proficiency and GD&T knowledge are assets
