Job summary

Nutrien is seeking a Process Engineer at our Joffre, Alberta site (near Red Deer) to support safe, reliable plant operation and capital projects. You will work with Operations, Maintenance and Technical Services to optimize control systems, ensure safety programs, and drive continuous improvement across the facility.

The role requires a P.Eng in good standing and 5+ years in an operating facility, with experience in process simulation and data tools like SAP HANA and Power BI highly valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from a recognized institution in chemical, petroleum, controls engineering or equivalent.
• P. Eng in good standing with APEGA, APEGS, PEO or equivalent Canadian body.
• 5+ years experience in an operating facility preferred.
• Experience with control system programming and documentation required.
• Knowledge of process simulation, and process monitoring theory, design, and application.
• Experience in data science applications including SAP HANA, MS Power Automate and MS PowerBI an asset.
• Experience with software including Aspen HYSYS, Unisim, Delta-V and PI an asset.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day process engineering support to operations and maintenance teams to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operation.
• Participate in and support Process Safety Management (PSM) programs, including Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), ORM, LOPA, and PSI management.
• Coordinate Management of Change (MOC) activities, including technical evaluations, risk assessments, implementation planning, documentation, and closure.
• Troubleshoot process and operational issues, support control strategy optimization, and implement sustainable solutions to improve plant reliability, safety, and performance.
• Provide process engineering support to capital projects from concept development through commissioning and startup.
• Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, and Technical Services teams to resolve complex process issues and drive continuous improvement.

What You'll Do:

• Provide day-to-day process engineering support to operations and maintenance teams to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operation
• Participate in and support Process Safety Management (PSM) programs, including Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), operational risk assessments (ORM), Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA), and Process Safety Information (PSI) management
• Coordinate Management of Change (MOC) activities, including technical evaluations, risk assessments, implementation planning, documentation, and closure
• Troubleshoot process and operational issues, support process control strategy optimization, and implement sustainable solutions to improve plant reliability, safety, and performance
• Provide process engineering support to capital projects from concept development through commissioning and startup
• Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, and Technical Services teams to resolve complex process issues, support continuous improvement initiatives, and enhance plant safety, reliability, and performance

What You'll Bring:

• Bachelor's degree from a recognized institution in chemical, petroleum, controls engineering or equivalent (consideration will be given to equivalent experience and training)
• P. Eng in good standing with APEGA, APEGS, PEO or equivalent Canadian body
• 5+ years experience in an operating facility preferred
• Experience with control system programming and documentation required
• Knowledge of process simulation, and process monitoring theory, design, and application
• Experience in data science applications including SAP HANA, MS Power Automate and MS PowerBI an asset
• Experience with software including Aspen HYSYS, Unisim, Delta-V and PI an asset
