Job summary

EPCOR Utilities Inc. is seeking a temporary full-time Engineer-in-Training (EIT), Stormwater Planning for up to 6 months in Edmonton, AB.

You will support stormwater studies, gather data, and develop planning documents under guidance of a Professional Engineer. Required: Engineering degree and EIT designation in good standing; 2+ years in water planning/design with co-op experience; familiarity with hydrologic/hydraulics modeling, GIS, and SCADA/WISKI.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree (Civil, Environmental, Electrical, Mechanical or Process) is required.
• Engineer-in-Training designation (EIT) with APEGA (or ability to attain) in good standing.
• 2+ years of experience in water planning/design (Co-op acceptable).
• Experience with hydrologic/hydraulics design and modelling tools is desirable.
• Familiarity with SCADA/WISKI/database systems and GIS software.
• Ability to interpret design/PFD and P&ID diagrams.

Highlights of the job

We are hiring a temporary full-time Engineer-in-Training (EIT), Storm water Planning position for up to 6 months working out of Edmonton, AB .

As the EIT, y ou will contribute to stormwater planning projects and programs of varying size and complexity, helping support reliable and sustainable stormwater services for our communities. Using your engineering knowledge, y ou'll participate in project work from early planning through execution, helping to deliver assigned tasks, coordinate meetings and field activities, engage with stakeholders, and support the overall quality and success of project outcomes.

Working under the guidance of a Professional Engineer, you'll apply engineering planning principles and best practices to develop reports, studies, and other project deliverables. You'll also collaborate with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, using strong communication and relationship-building skills to contribute to project success.

Reporting to the Manager, Embedded Engineering, you'll receive day-to-day direction and project assignments from leaders and engineers within the Stormwater Planning team. This environment will provide opportunities to broaden your technical knowledge, gain exposure to a variety of planning projects, and continue developing toward your professional engineering goals.

What you’d be responsible for

• Supporting Stormwater Planning Studies using a strong understanding of EPCOR's water systems.
• Gathering information from resources across EPCOR Water, EPCOR Utilities, and external partners to support Stormwater Planning Engineers.
• Acquiring the resources and developing strategies needed to deliver assigned tasks and project work.
• Monitoring, measuring, and reporting on the progress of assigned tasks, making timely adjustments or communicating changes to support project timelines, and updating dashboards and schedules as required.
• Tracking and recording time spent on project-related tasks as required.
• Assisting in reviewing planning processes and best practices while ensuring compliance with EPCOR policies, standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Building effective working relationships with internal stakeholders, including Engineering, Planning, Project Management, Operations, Maintenance, and Supply Chain teams, as well as external stakeholders such as contractors, consultants, regulators, suppliers, and vendors.
• Developing planning documents in alignment with EPCOR's policies, procedures, and values.
• Demonstrating a high-performance, safety-focused, accountable, innovative, and collaborative approach while contributing to a positive and easy-to-do-business-with culture.

What’s required to be successful

• An Engineering degree (Civil, Environmental, Electrical, Mechanical , or Process )
• Engineer-in-Training designation (EIT) with APEGA (or the ability to attain) in good standing
• 2+ years of experience in water linear asset engineering design and / or planning engineering, including Co-op experience
• Experience with hydrologic/hydraulics design and modelling tools is desirable
• Ability to understand and navigate information from SCADA/WISKI/database systems
• Ability to understand and interpret design/structural drawings for Stormwater Management Facilities (ponds, control structures, maintenance holes, etc )
• Ability to understand and interpret stormwater flow paths / piping path in GIS software
• Understanding of process flow diagrams (PFD) and process & instrumentation diagrams (P&ID)
• Experience executing small to medium tasks within larger engineering or planning studies under the supervision of more experienced engineers
• Ability to plan and organize work to deliver results, meet project timelines, and maintain high-quality standards.
• Conduct cost estimating and alternatives cost-benefit analyses

• A requirement of working for EPCOR is that you are at least 18 years of age, successfully attained a high school diploma (GED, or equivalent level of secondary education) and legally entitled to work in Canada. (A copy of a valid work permit may be required.)
