Job summary

CPKC is seeking an Engineer in Training in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. You will join a team to help shape railway infrastructure while pursuing P.Eng eligibility and gaining mentorship in real-world projects.

Requirements include Civil Engineering degree, P.Eng eligibility, 1–3 years (co-op acceptable), and a valid driver’s license. The role involves field travel, on-site construction management, and collaboration with multiple departments to deliver critical infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Mechanical/Industrial with Civil focus considered).
• Must be Professional Engineer (P.Eng) eligible.
• Minimum of 1–3 years of experience (co-op considered).
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Manage the execution of assigned projects, ensuring on-time, in-scope, and on-budget delivery.
• Supervise and coordinate with engineering consultants.
• Prepare cost estimates, technical reports, memos, and external correspondence.
• Coordinate with internal departments, external stakeholders, and customers.
• Provide on-site construction management and ensure safety compliance.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Are you a recent Civil Engineering graduate looking to kick-start your career in a hands-on, fast-paced environment? CPKC is looking for an Engineer in Training to join our team and help shape the future of railway infrastructure. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is looking to obtain an Professional Engineer license (P. Eng) eligible, passionate about transportation systems, and eager to grow through mentorship and real-world project experience.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Manage the execution of assigned projects, ensuring delivery on time, within scope, and on budget
• Supervise and coordinate with engineering consultants
• Prepare cost estimates, technical reports, memos, and external correspondence
• Coordinate with internal departments, external stakeholders, and customers
• Provide on-site construction management and ensure compliance with safety standards
• Support Business Development with third-party customer projects
• Perform on-site safety audits and efficiency assessments, while engaging with union personnel to ensure alignment with safety protocols and project goals
• Field travel as needed to project sites to familiarize yourself with the territory
• Participate in on-call rotation to support 24/7 operations

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering – Civil (Mechanical or Industrial backgrounds will be considered)

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
