Job description

The Facilities Engineer undertakes project management of capital projects, maintenance and service activities. The Facilities Engineer executes an assigned portion of the Capital Program and Facilities Expense commitments. They may independently manage up to $0.5M for design contracts and $2.0M for construction projects, while overseeing contracts and projects in excess with the support of their manager. In addition, they support the business as a subject matter expert and provide technical support in their area of responsibility.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Engineering, Engineering Science, Applied Science, or equivalent.
  • Professional Engineer registered with Engineers Nova Scotia (preferred)
  • Project Management Professional (preferred)
  • Ability to coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to effectively execute projects.
Responsibilities
  • Oversight of safety practices; Adherence to safety policies; Ultimate responsibility for safety among project stakeholders
  • Project budgeting for following fiscal year; Project development business requests; Validate incoming business requests.
  • Project alignment with stakeholders; Project approval; Communication; Investment review committee IRC submissions; Detailed cost estimating
  • Engineering consultant management; Vendor management; Procurement of goods and services; Communication and coordination; Vendor site access; Stakeholder management, minimize business impact
  • Project oversight; Mobilization; Communication and coordination; Monitoring progress; Safety; Coordinating resource availability
  • Financial reporting; Validation; Continuous observation in all other categories
  • Document control; Financial closure; Asset handover; Preventative maintenance planning; Stakeholder management and communication
  • Facility Information Center knowledge and distribution; SharePoint file management; Knowledge of policies and procedures; Project file management
  • Concept development; Designing; Engineering reviews; Managing engineering consultants; Providing consultation of applicable codes, standards, and best practices; Advising on concept feasibility and possible solutions to technical projects
