Job Description

The Facilities Engineer undertakes project management of capital projects, maintenance, and service activities. They execute assigned portions of the Capital Program and Facilities Expense commitments. They may independently manage budgets up to $0.5M for design contracts and $2.0M for construction projects, while overseeing larger projects with managerial support. Additionally, they serve as a subject matter expert, providing technical support in their area of responsibility.

Responsibilities

1. Safety Oversight: Ensure adherence to safety policies; responsible for safety among project stakeholders.
2. Project Budgeting: Develop budgets for upcoming fiscal year; validate business requests.
3. Project Coordination: Align projects with stakeholders; manage approvals, communication, investment reviews, and detailed cost estimates.
4. Vendor and Contract Management: Manage engineering consultants and vendors; procure goods/services; coordinate activities; manage site access and stakeholder communication to minimize business impact.
5. Project Oversight: Mobilize projects; monitor progress; coordinate resources; ensure safety.
6. Financial Management: Conduct financial reporting, validation, and closeout activities.
7. Documentation and Asset Management: Control documents; facilitate financial closure; oversee asset handover; plan preventative maintenance; manage stakeholder communication.
8. Information Management: Maintain Facility Information Center; manage SharePoint files; ensure policy and procedure compliance; organize project files.
9. Design and Engineering: Develop concepts; review engineering designs; manage consultants; advise on codes, standards, and best practices; assess feasibility and technical solutions.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Science, Applied Science, or equivalent.
2. Professional Engineer registration with Engineers Nova Scotia (preferred).
3. Project Management Professional certification (preferred).
4. Effective coordination with internal and external stakeholders for project execution.
