The Office of the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer is looking for a temporary full time Engagement Specialist to join its team for approximately one (1) year.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, this role sits within the Civic Engagement and Communications Division and offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced engagement specialist looking to join a new and growing team. The successful candidate will support public processes that build trust with community, increase transparency, and improve access to government. This role is part of a strong team with a service-driven culture where each day presents fresh challenges and opportunities to tangibly impact the lives of City of North Vancouver’s residents, businesses, partners and visitors.

We are seeking an engagement practitioner with demonstrated skills in public process design, convening and facilitation, participatory research including quantitative and qualitative analysis, digital engagement and a commitment to collaborative and peer-based learning and coaching. In this role, you will co‑develop and help implement engagement plans for staff teams, provide guidance and support on meaningful strategies and tactics for involving residents, partners and interest holders in shaping and realizing the City’s strategic and annual plans, as well as ongoing initiatives to build trust and improve the quality and reach of public participation. You will also help develop clear and accessible reports on the results of engagement processes.

Requirements

Your qualifications include a degree in one of the following areas; Planning, Communications, Community Development, Public Policy or a related discipline. You will have considerable experience in an engagement and/or community relations position in a government or intergovernmental setting, and/ or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience including developing and implementing engagement plans on complex initiatives. Certification in facilitation and/ or the International Association of Public Participation and a commitment to working with equity‑deserving communities are assets. Your strategic communication skills include excellent written and spoken communication, issues management and understanding of community and partner relationships.

Compensation

$49.35 to $58.32 per hour

(Pay Grade 26 – 2026 rates)

Hours of Work

The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately every three‑week scheduling cycle.

Additional Information

For temporary full‑time positions of eight (8) months or longer, a City employee who is successful on the posting will have the right to revert to their former position.
