Reporting to the Asset Manager and aligned with site energy objectives, the Energy Program Specialist will support Energy Improvement initiatives and lead change at the Discovery Porcupine mine sites. The Energy Program Specialist will also support the development of a sustainable culture, delivering results for all Porcupine Sites
Purpose
The Energy Program Specialist Will Be Required To
- Support and ensure that all activities, projects and general conduct associated with Energy Management are carried out in accordance with all Discovery Porcupine Health and Safety policies, the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, and other legislation as it applies.
- Eliminate workplace hazards and at-risk behaviors
- Intervene, as necessary, to ensure the health and safety of all employees in the workplace, to protect the environment, and to protect Discovery Porcupine assets and interests.
Responsibilities
- Lead/facilitate teams to identify and implement change for energy and operating efficiencies and associated cost savings
- Work as a team leader for energy improvement activities to ensure that results are measured, monitored, communicated and controlled
- Work as a team member to analyze and present operating and energy data for management or team decision making
- Report on and respond to Federal, Provincial, Corporate and Site energy analysis and reporting requirements such as Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), Greenhouse Gas reduction (GHG) programs
- Provide National Electrical Annuity Plan (NEAP) Reports and Budgeting to meet all Energy reporting standards quarterly
- Focus on Energy reducing initiatives in reducing consumption for Diesel, Power, Natural gas and Propane
- Manage Power Load Shedding activities and load reduction forecasting
- Support teamwork and promote use of standard procedures and policies and encourage the development of improved procedures, guidelines or standards
- Identify, analyze, prioritize and implement improvement opportunities based on their value and PGM business needs
- Update project databases and business systems to improve their accuracy and efficiency of use in decision making
- Analyze PGM energy spending, recommend and implement energy and cost saving initiatives in alignment with PGM management and front-line employees
- Perform other duties as assigned
Training and Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Systems or Engineering Technology, Operations Management or a related field with application to our mining, processing, and resource based business.
- Professional designation as a certified engineering technician, Certified Energy Manager or licensed Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in mining operations, process or energy management, mechanical systems design, construction, and/or maintenance, or another closely related field
- Mining experience, familiarity with processing systems, dispatch, communications, equipment operations or maintenance considered an asset.
- Strategic and creative thinker who is exceptionally adept with quantitative analysis, able to interpret data and communicate ideas clearly
- Excellent business writing skills for day-to-day communications, bulletins, instructional materials, recommendations, presentations and performance reporting
- Excellent computer skills with proficiency using Microsoft Office products
- Ability to use or learn MS Project, Visio, SAP, other mining/business systems
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills
- Ability to function well under pressure and adhere to tight deadlines
- Ability to interact effectively with all levels and all positions within the organization
- Ability to manage multiple projects, work independently, be an effective team player
- Confident public speaker
- Possesses a strong work ethic with high display of motivation and initiative
- Ensure confidentiality in all company dealings
