BC Hydro is seeking an EMS User Interface Support Analyst 1 to join their Fraser Valley Office. The role is permanent, full-time, with a salary of CA$70,600.00 – CA$76,000.00 per year. Location is Fraser Valley Office.

You will develop and maintain EMS displays and UI elements for Real Time Operations and related teams, ensuring reliability and compliance with BCH standards. On-site work with a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology or related technical field from an accredited college or institute.
• At least 1 year of programming or database experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain EMS one-line displays, generation displays, and transmission overviews for Real Time Operations staff.
• Implement EMS UI elements: pictures, symbols, GAB, CAM, conditional text and pop-up menus.
• Configure menus, toolbars, charts for WebFG servers to meet operational needs.
• Develop EMS displays used by CPC Technologists during lab testing and RTU upgrades.
• Consult with RTO, System Control, RTS, RCO staff to improve EMS WebFG displays.
• Demonstrate WebFG features to engineers in various teams.
• Address EMS WebFG UI change requests and assess production impact.
• Relink missing database linkages and ensure EMS display quality.

• The candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining EMS Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) one-line displays, generation displays, and transmission overviews for all regions of BC and neighbouring US and Alberta regions for Real Time Operations (RTO) and Reliability Coordination Operations (RCO) staff. The candidate will also implement displays for advanced studies and data simulations conducted by Real Time Systems (RTS), RCO, and Operations Planning.
• The candidate will be responsible for analyzing EMS WebFG user interface (UI) requirements provided by BCH System Control, RTS, RCO, and Operations Planning staff. The candidate must develop a range of essential EMS display UI elements, such as pictures, symbols, shared Graphic Attribute Bundle (GAB), Conditional Attribute Modifier (CAM), conditional text, and control pop-up menus. The candidate will configure and revise drop down menus, toolbar, shared rooms, and charts for WebFG servers to meet the specialized operational requirements of RTO, RCO, BCH System Control, RTS, and Operations Planning staff.
• The candidate will be responsible for developing specialized EMS displays used by Communication, Protection & Control (CPC) Technologists during lab testing, field device commissioning, and remote terminal unit (RTU) replacing/upgrading. These activities enable CPC Technologists to confirm that the BCH EMS WebFG user interface has correct analog readings, measurements, status, and control of power equipment from BCH transmission, distribution, and generation facilities, including SCADA enabled Distribution Automation devices located outside BCH facilities. The candidate will develop and implement EMS UI custom control functionality to meet generation/transmission/distribution engineering new technology/architecture requirements.
• The candidate will be responsible for consulting with RTO, BCH System Control, RCO and RTS staff, CPC Technologists, and EMS vendor engineers when developing, revising, and enhancing EMS WebFG displays. The candidate will review new or revised displays to ensure reliability, safety, and compliance with BCH display standards and procedures.
• The candidate will be responsible for demonstrating WebFG operating features and capabilities to RTO, BCH System Control, RCO, RTS, and Operations Planning engineers.
• The candidate will be responsible for addressing users’ requests for EMS WebFG UI enhancements by analyzing UI change requests and determining the impact of proposed changes in production systems; researching and assessing EMS UI application capabilities and providing recommendations for possible implementation of proposed changes; modifying existing EMS displays and testing proposed changes in quality assurance systems; and implementing approved UI changes in production systems.
• The candidate will be responsible for ensuring EMS display quality by identifying database linkage errors on the quality assurance systems. The candidate will relink missing application database linkages on BCH EMS displays after weekly database failover.
• The candidate will be responsible for modifying the EMS SCADA database to create/remove manually entered switching devices for use by System Control staff. The candidate will create new switching devices in the SCADA database according to updated engineering one-lines used by the control room to display the current state of the device and place safety and information related tags on the equipment. The candidate will coordinate with System Control and RCO staff when adding new manually entered switching devices to the production operating one-lines to ensure proper state.
• The candidate will be responsible for performing various operating functions for the WebFG display building workstation, such as setting up vendor WebFG Builder software; maintaining the workstation in optimum operative condition by ensuring the required vendor patches and releases are installed as instructed by the EMS User Interface Analyst 3; and setting up the EMS UI compiling scripts and uploading scripts on the workstation.
• The candidate will be responsible for recording and reporting vendor EMS WebFG Builder software problems/bugs to EMS User Interface Analyst 2 for review.
• The candidate will be responsible for performing duties of a minor nature related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the job.

Job Requirements

• The candidate must have a Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology or a related technical field from an accredited college or an Institute of Technology.
• The candidate must have one (1) year of programming or database experience.
