Job summary

Qualifications

• Diploma in Human/Social Services or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years of related experience supporting individuals with diverse abilities.
• Current first aid certificate.
• Genuine interest in working with individuals with diverse abilities.
• Ability to remain calm in difficult situations.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with participants, caregivers, and community members.
• Accountable and able to collaborate with others.
• Good organization, time, and general management skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan and prepare for participant program activities.
• Assist participants with executing their plans in a positive, committed manner.
• Support daily living, social, and behaviour management activities; assist with grooming, cooking, money management, shopping, safety, and mobility.
• Provide participants with positive role models and guidance.
• Provide feedback based on observations to participants and families.
• Ensure health and safety standards.
• Provide emotional support and monitor wellbeing.
• Identify emergencies and report progress as needed.
• Administer medication per policy.
• Provide personal care using equipment like ceiling lifts to promote independence.
• Mentor volunteers and practicum students.
