Job summary

ISSofBC, a leading newcomer-serving organization in Canada, is hiring an Employment Resources Facilitator in Squamish, BC. The role emphasizes improving client employment readiness through referrals, training, and follow-up with community resources.

Reporting to the WorkBC Senior Manager, you will promote programs, conduct orientations, assess eligibility, and help clients access resources. Fluency in English and potential multilingual skills are valued.

Qualifications

  • Certificate or diploma in vocational counselling, human services, Certificate in Essential Skills, or Job Finding Club facilitation.
  • Fluency in English along with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in any additional languages is considered an asset.
  • Public speaking ability to convey ideas clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Cultural competency and commitment to working with diverse populations.
  • Career/employment counselling knowledge and Canadian job search strategies.
  • Knowledge of the local labour market for newcomers.
  • Experience developing and facilitating groups/workshops.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure access to current job search resources and leads; follow up on client self-marketing.
  • Liaise with program funder, staff, and stakeholders to support client goals.
  • Teacher/coaching for students/clients using various instructional methods to build employability.
  • Arrange short-term training to prepare clients for job readiness.
  • Design curriculum and lesson plans for courses like computer skills and job search.

Job Summary

Reporting to the WorkBC Senior Manager and Program Manager – WorkBC Squamish, the Employment Facilitator improves client employment readiness through referral and follow-up to community referral and through competency-based training. Employment Facilitators support clients to obtain job placements by facilitating and supporting self-marketing job search activities.

How You Will Make a Difference
  • Markets employment and training programs to prospective clients and employers and develops related promotional materials.
  • Conduct orientations, information sessions, pre-screens, and evaluates client eligibility for programs and services. Supports clients to enroll in government required registration.
  • Provides clients with information regarding available resources within the community, refers to other programs and services as required, and monitors enrollment/progress in those programs.
  • Provide support, direction, and regular contact to clients utilizing the Resource Centre.
  • Ensure clients utilizing the Resource Centre have access to current and updated job search resources and job leads. Support and follow-up clients in their self-marketing job search.
  • Liaises with the program funder, internal staff, and stakeholders to provide and receive information that supports clients/student’s ability to achieve their goals.
  • Teaches student/client and provide coaching using a variety of instructional methodologies to enable the development of skills necessary for increased employability and/or personal independence.
  • Assists clients to become job-ready by arranging for short-term training.
  • Designs curriculum and lesson plans for courses such as computer skills, cohort training, job search skills, and essential skills. Modifies lesson plans according to factors such as student/client level, student/client goals and mental health and behavioral barriers.
  • Formally evaluates students/clients in areas such as technical and interpersonal skill development; provides student/clients with feedback and prepares progress reports.
  • Provide ongoing assessment and evaluation of student/client skill acquisition.
  • Provides input and make recommendations to management on issues such as program evaluation and organizational policies.
  • Maintain adequate levels of supplies. Make recommendations for types of equipment required. Completes and maintains related records and documentation such as student evaluations, attendance records, schedules, waitlists, and job placement results.
What You Bring
  • Certificate or diploma in vocational counselling, human services, Certificate in Essential Skills, or Job Finding Club facilitation, and a minimum of 2 years’ employment counselling experience including facilitating workshops and small groups, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. A Career Development Practitioner Certificate is preferred.
  • Fluency in English along with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, are required.
  • Fluency in any additional languages is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in public speaking and the ability to convey ideas clearly to diverse audiences, are essential.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and commitment to working effectively with diverse populations.
  • Proven career/employment counselling skills; well-versed in Canadian job search strategies and techniques.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the local labour market, especially those related to newcomer clients.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and facilitating groups and workshops.
  • Service-oriented with a demonstrated willingness to help the department and the organization achieve desired objectives and targets.
  • Ability to engage with external stakeholders.
  • A clear provincial Criminal Record Check, including a vulnerable sector check, is required, and will be ordered and paid for by the organization. The check must remain current throughout employment and be renewed every five (5) years.
