Job summary

The Salvation Army – Vancouver Harbour Light in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside is seeking a Shelter Worker to support intake, discharge and daily shelter operations within a 24/7 program. This role uses trauma-informed practice and harm reduction, collaborates with Harbour Light Case Workers, and requires awake shifts including overnights.

Applicants should have high school education, Naloxone training, First Aid/CPR and Mental Health First Aid, with background checks and a willingness to serve

Qualifications

• Willingness to support The Salvation Army mission
• Ability to provide an original copy of a Background Check
• Criminal Record Check clearance required for all positions

Responsibilities

• Intake and discharge of clients and contacting related services
• Monitor safety of clients and the facility
• Maintain bed lists and daily logs
• Provide advocacy and support to clients in crisis
• Record day-to-day activities and maintain logs
• Use trauma-informed practice and harm reduction principles
