Job description

Physicians can enjoy comprehensive emergency medicine in several rural settings. The Hospital Emergency Departments vary in size and visits annually, providing 2-hour acute care services. The team includes highly trained and skilled nurses and support staff.

The Hospitals are located in beautiful towns with access to healthcare campuses, long-term care facilities, satellite dialysis clinics, public health offices, CCAC, and Community Care. The Hospitals also offer opportunities to educate and mentor medical students and residents from Queen's University and the University of Ottawa. Regional secondary hospitals provide excellent 24-hour support from specialties such as internal medicine, intensive care, general surgery, orthopedics, urology, pediatrics, anesthesia, obstetrics and gynecology, psychiatry, otolaryngology, and radiology. Tertiary care centers are located in Kingston, Toronto, and Oshawa.

Remuneration & Incentives:

• Alternate Payment Plan (APP) ensures stable and competitive remuneration. Full-time physicians are eligible for a $10,000 relocation incentive!
• Full-time physicians (12 shifts/month) can expect approximately $350,000 - $400,000 per year.

Schedule:

• Two 8-hour shifts and two 9-hour shifts per day
• Single-physician coverage per shift with brief overlaps for effective handovers
• 9-hour periods of double physician coverage during peak times, with the opening of our Fast Track / Greenzone area
• Utilization of MetricAid scheduling software for ease and convenience in shift selection
• ED staffed with nurse practitioners for 12 hours daily, ensuring efficient patient throughput and allowing physicians to focus on high-acuity care.

Requirements:

• CCFP-EM and FRCPC-EM physicians are preferred but not required
• We offer an ED Mentorship Program for Family Medicine physicians interested in ED work
• Family Physicians can also enjoy rural medicine, including inpatient acute care, flexible call, community medicine, clinics, house calls, long-term care, family health teams, and solo/group practice
• Certifications in ACLS, ATLS, and PALS
• Eligible for fully independent registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
• US Board Certified Physicians are eligible for independent licensure in Ontario
