Job summary

Prairie Mountain Health in Manitoba seeks a Psychiatric Nurse with senior clinical experience to join the Emergency Department and inpatient teams. You will conduct psychiatric assessments, triage complex cases, and collaborate with physicians, nurses and social services to plan patient care.

You will apply trauma-informed care and recovery-oriented practices, support families, and provide teaching to students and staff while maintaining strong professional standards and confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Baccalaureate degree in Psychiatric Nursing or equivalent and active license.
• 3+ years of recent mental health experience.
• BCLS certification and crisis intervention training.
• ASIST and NVCI certifications listed as required.
• Driver's license with vehicle access for Prairie Mountain Health duties.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and IT applications.
• Demonstrated teaching, leadership and teamwork abilities.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed and recovery-oriented care.

Responsibilities

• Assess, consult and triage complex mental health presentations in ED and inpatient settings.
• Provide crisis intervention, risk assessment and care planning.
• Coordinate with ED team, inpatient units and community resources.
• Liaise with psychiatrists on call and other departments for patient care.
• Support families, educate clients and staff, and promote recovery-oriented practices.
• Document assessments, plans and outcomes; participate in policy development.

Education

Baccalaureate degree in Psychiatric Nursing or Registered Psychiatric Nurse

Active practicing licensure with College of Registered Psychiatric Nurse of Manitoba

Minimum of three years within past five years of relevant clinical experience in mental health

Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook/Word/Excel/Access/PowerPoint

Excellent counselling and conflict resolution skills

Ability to teach individuals and groups (adult learning)

Ability to work independently and as part of interdisciplinary team

Knowledge of trauma-informed care and recovery-oriented practice
