Job summary

The Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking an Emergency Department Registered Nurse for a travel contract across facilities in Nova Scotia. You will manage high-acuity trauma, medical emergencies, and rapid triage in fast-paced ED settings, coordinating care and providing clinical leadership.

Must-have includes 2 years ED experience, nursing credential, NSCN registration, BLS Level C, and English fluency. ACLS/TNCC and prior NSHA travel experience are valued assets.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent Emergency Department experience.
• Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing.
• Active NSCN registration or eligibility.
• BLS Level C Certification is current.
• RN post-entry competencies: venipuncture, CVAD care, PICC line care, IV meds.
• Must read, write, and speak fluent English.
• Legal right to work in Canada.
• CTAS triage competency strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and direct overall nursing care for assigned patients.
• Provide clinical leadership in high-acuity emergency care settings.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to achieve outcomes.
• Administer medications, including IV meds per formulary.
• Complete documentation by the end of the shift.
• Comply with NSHA policies and emergency codes.
• Perform rapid triage assessments using CTAS.
• Manage high-acuity presentations including trauma and resuscitation.
• Initiate emergency interventions and stabilization.
• Participate in emergency response teams and codes.

Role Summary:
Provide emergency nursing care in NSHA Emergency Departments across Nova Scotia. You will manage a high-acuity, fast-paced patient caseload including trauma, medical emergencies, acute presentations, and triage.

Must-Haves:

• Minimum 2 years of recent Emergency Department experience

• Active registration (or eligibility) with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN)
• Basic Life Support — Level C (Health Care Provider) Certification (current)

• CTAS (Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale) triage competency — strongly preferred

• Initiate emergency interventions and stabilization protocols
• Participate in emergency response teams and code situations
