Elementary Music Teacher at Montroyal Elementary School
Start Date: September 8, 2026
FTE: 0.652 (Part time)
NATURE OF THE ASSIGNMENT

This NIT assignment provides music instruction to students across Kindergarten to Grade 7. The position offers the opportunity to design and deliver engaging music experiences that develop students' understanding of rhythm, melody, movement, creativity, and music literacy. The assignment includes leading school-wide music performances and celebrations, supporting assemblies and special events, and contributing to the vibrant culture of the school through the arts. Opportunities exist to develop and support choral, instrumental, and performance-based experiences for students while fostering confidence, collaboration, and a love of music. Our school goals focus on fostering a strong sense of belonging for all learners and strengthening student writing. We are committed to creating a positive, inclusive school culture where students feel connected, valued, and supported. School-wide work includes implementing Positive Behaviour Interventions and Supports (PBIS), using restorative practices to build relationships and accountability, and developing writing skills through a focused school-wide literacy initiative.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Bachelor of Education Degree, specializing in Elementary.
  • Successful experience teaching at the Elementary level.

  • Strong commitment to excellence in teaching and demonstrated teaching ability.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement a variety of assessment practices to measure and monitor student progress effectively.

  • Demonstrated successful experience supporting the success of all learners in an inclusive environment.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral communications, written communication, and group facilitation skills.
  • Superior work ethic and social emotional competencies, excellent reflective judgment, and commitment to building effective learning communities.
  • Comprehensive understanding of curriculum.
  • Confidence and proficiency in using instructional organizers, concepts, and strategies that actively engage all students in learning.
  • Ability to positively influence instruction, curriculum, assessment, and social-emotional learning practices in a collaborative environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the application of relevant computer technologies to teaching and learning.
  • Willingness to be involved in professional development, with an ongoing commitment to learn and implement new methodologies and strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and staff to enhance the school as a learning community.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Possession of a BC Teaching Certificate
  • Membership in the BC Teacher Regulation Branch.
  • A member of the North Vancouver Teachers’ Association and the BC Teachers’ Federation.
