Job description

DISTRICT ELEMENTARY COUNSELLOR

(1.0 Continuing)

School District No. 42 (SD42) serves approximately 17,000 students in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows. With an annual budget of over $200M and more than 2,000 staff, the district provides K-12 education across 22 elementary schools, six secondary schools, and two alternative schools. It also offers various certificate programs and lifelong learning opportunities through Ridge Meadows College and Continuing Education.

SD42 is seeking qualified applicants for a 1.0 FTE Continuing Elementary Counsellor position within our Safe and Caring Schools program. The role involves providing leadership and support to schools, working under the supervision of the Principal, and assisting school counsellors in their counselling roles. The counsellor will collaborate with the helping teacher team and be responsible for tasks such as developing a counselling handbook, updating protocols and policies, providing training, and strengthening community partnerships.

Applicants should have or be enrolled in a master’s degree in counselling psychology or an equivalent field, with successful elementary classroom teaching and counselling experience. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially with school-based teams and professionals, are essential. The ability to work collaboratively within a team is also required.
