Job Summary
This position involves duties in three areas: the classroom, undergraduate teaching laboratories, and upper-year project areas. Responsibilities include maintaining and repairing physics equipment, designing and fabricating new demonstration apparatus, assisting students with design projects, developing equipment inventories, and creating laboratory timetables.
Qualifications include community college training in electronic engineering technology, with a minimum of a 3-year Electrical Engineering program, plus at least three years of relevant experience. Skills required include building and troubleshooting circuits, staying current with physics instrumentation and computing hardware/software, familiarity with Arduinos, and strong organizational and communication skills.
The incumbent will instruct lab demonstrators, students, and external users, oversee equipment operation, develop procedures, and ensure safety standards are met. The department has a large faculty, staff, and student body, with equipment valued at over $1 million. Hazards include electrical, laser, radioactivity, and mechanical risks, with limited air circulation in labs.
