Job summary

Chemelex, a global leader in electric thermal and sensing solutions, seeks an Electronics Technician IV for advanced lab work in Edmonton, AB. You will lead hardware, firmware, and software testing, build prototypes, and support manufacturing with test fixtures and troubleshooting.

Requirements include a technology diploma in electrical/electronics, 5+ years hands-on lab experience, soldering fine-pitch PCBA, and strong problem-solving abilities. IPC/industry standards knowledge is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Technology diploma in electrical/electronics or related engineering.
  • 5+ years of hands-on laboratory, soldering or technical experience.
  • Ability to solder fine pitch components in PCBA.
  • Full knowledge of lab test equipment such as Oscilloscopes, DMMs, Function Generator, AC/DC power supplies.
  • Experience with building prototype circuit boards, manufacturing test fixtures, high voltage wiring.
  • Experience in firmware and software testing according to defined test plans.
  • Understanding of electrical circuits, basic schematics and ability to troubleshoot electronic equipment.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with electrical testing and instrumentation.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct product validation – Hardware, Firmware, Software & Test Fixture testing of Heat trace and controller units.
  • Assemble prototype PCAs and build test fixtures & load banks.
  • Support manufacturing by troubleshooting test fixtures and production issues.
  • Analyze circuits and perform root cause analysis; assist with repairs.
  • Perform standards and certification testing with approvals and witness testing.

The Electronics Technician IV performs a wide range of laboratory procedures under limited instruction, supporting engineering and technical teams. This role requires several years of hands-on experience in a laboratory or technology environment and the ability to independently initiate and complete work activities with minimal supervision. The technician applies practical knowledge, sound judgment, and established procedures to execute testing, interpret data, and support product and process engineering.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct product validation – Hardware, Firmware, Software & Test Fixture testing of Heat trace and leak detection controllers in accordance with established procedures and test plans while exercising flexibility and innovation.
  • Assemble prototype & custom PCBAs for experimental setups; design and build test fixtures & load banks to support internal and external manufacturing.
  • Support manufacturing team (internal/external) by troubleshooting test fixtures and production issues
  • Analyze and troubleshoot circuits down to the component level and assist with failure and root cause analysis, troubleshooting equipment and product repair.
  • Perform standards and certification testing, including participation in approvals and witness testing.
  • Interpret and communicate test results, observations, and recommendations to engineers and project teams.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory and equipment while ensuring compliance with all safety standards and procedures.
  • Audit and standardize test methods, update SOPs, retrain staff, and apply sound judgment to improve processes and solutions.
  • Knowledge of safety policies and procedures, and ability to promote compliance with them.
