Job summary

EnerSys in Burnaby, BC is seeking a Hardware Co-Op to join the Engineering team. You will define a test strategy, perform tests on analog and digital products, and create detailed test reports. Collaborate with designers to troubleshoot issues and propose improvements during the term.

The role requires working knowledge of microprocessors, peripheral circuits, and switching power supplies, plus hands-on lab testing with scope, analyzers, and LTSPICE/Altium familiarity.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate engineering program in electronics or related field.
  • Experience with test planning, testing and documentation is a plus.
  • Familiarity with oscilloscope, spectrum analyzers and environmental chambers.
  • Ability to work full-time 40 hours per week for the term.

Responsibilities

Job description

Compensation Range:$20.00 - $25.00 CAD

This is a current vacant position.

Job Purpose

Alpha Technologies Ltd. is looking for Hardware Co-Op to join the Engineering team in our Burnaby head office. We are looking for a co-op student to help define a test strategy, and then perform the tests, for some exciting new analog and digital products we are developing. The position involves working within the engineering team to fully understand the products and then working on the verification test plan for the prototype products. The candidate will perform the testing and troubleshooting, if necessary, using a variety of lab test equipment, and may also need to construct test jigs or other equipment as part of the test process. The candidate will also be responsible to create the test report. If problems are found, the student will work with the designers to help identify and implement solutions. The ideal candidate shall have a good working knowledge and experience with microprocessors, peripheral circuits, and switching power supplies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design and develop hardware circuits for various test jigs, involving both analog and digital circuitry. Familiarity with LTSPICE or similar would be desirable
  • Familiarity with basic op-amp circuits, transistor circuits, etc. Familiarity with PCB CAD package like Altium would be an asset
  • Create design calculations and develop detailed design verification plans Execute test plans, document and analyze results
  • Propose and implement design changes to the product based on testing Prepare and maintain technical documentation
  • Work with the firmware and software team to develop solutions Contribute to continuous improvements of existing systems.
  • Participate in the development of the department's strategic goals and direction
Qualifications
  • Familiarity with a variety of electronic test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, environmental chambers, and related tools.
  • Experience soldering surface-mount technology (SMT) components.
  • Exposure to analog circuits, microprocessor-based circuitry, switch-mode power supplies, test plan development, test execution, and documentation of results is considered an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document technical findings clearly and effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with team members and stakeholders to evaluate options and develop solutions to technical challenges.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, design, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment.
  • Availability to work a full-time schedule (40 hours per week) for the duration of the work term.
  • Ability to reliably commute to or work from the Burnaby, BC work location as required.
  • Available to participate in the work term from September 7, 2026, through December 18, 2026.
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate engineering program. Coursework or academic focus in electronics, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field is considered an asset.
