Job summary

Aversan Inc. in Toronto is seeking a Senior EMC/EMI Engineer to lead electromagnetic compatibility testing and environmental qualification activities for rail signaling hardware.

You will work in a hybrid team, develop EMC documentation, coordinate with subcontractors, and mentor junior engineers while ensuring compliance with EN 61000 series, EN 50121, EN 50125, EN 50155, FCC, AREMA, and MIL standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Strong EMC testing experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of EMC concepts (Cabling, Grounding, Surge Protection).
  • Ability to operate EMC engineering measurement tools.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct EMC tests on railways signaling devices according to industry standards.
  • Perform environmental qualification tests (temperature, humidity, shock & vibration).
  • Familiarity with EN 61000, EN 50121, EN 50125, EN 50155, FCC, AREMA, MIL standards.
  • Lead subcontractors for EMC site measurements and provide measurements to design team.
  • Prepare EMC documentation (Control Plan, Compatibility Study, Hazard Analysis, Test Reports).
  • Develop hardware environmental qualification plans and reports per requirements.
  • Mentor junior team members and participate in audits and requirement verification.
  • Engage in ISA committee audit activities related to EMC and environmental requirements.

We are currently seeking a qualified Senior EMC/EMI Engineer to join our team.

Location: Toronto, ON

Work Arrangement: Hybrid

Responsibilities
  • Conduct electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) tests on electronic devices designed for railways signaling systems according to the industry standards
  • Conduct environmental qualification tests such as temperature, humidity and shock & vibration on electronic devices designed for railways signaling systems according to the industry standards
  • Must be familiar with railway (or similar industry) EMC and environmental standards; such standards include EN 61000 series, EN 50121 series, EN 50125, EN 50155, FCC, AREMA, MIL standards, etc.
  • Must have knowledge on grounding, shielding, surge protection and other basic EMC concepts
  • Must be able to operate hardware test equipment and simulators that are deployed in the hardware qualification test process
  • Participate in troubleshooting activities with regards to EMC tests and provide relevant measurements and technical details to the design team
  • Prepare project EMC documentations including EMC Control Plan, EMC Compatibility Study, EMC Hazard Analysis and EMC Test Report and drive them to customer acceptance
  • Prepares hardware environmental qualification plans and reports to specified requirements and understands the impact of the requirements and is able to provide feedback on different approaches
  • Be able to lead subcontractors with regards to specific EMC site measurements in line with customer requirements
  • Participate in the process of ISA (International Standards on Auditing) committee audit on EMC and environmental requirements
  • Familiarity with the topic of fire, smoke and toxicity is an asset: standards include EN 45545 and NFPA 130
  • Familiar with requirements management tools such as DOORS, Polarion, etc. and requirement verification process as per CENELEC standards
  • Developing junior team members of the department by providing assistance
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of diplomas and work experience
  • Strong EMC testing experience
  • Excellent knowledge of EMC concepts (Cabling, Grounding techniques, Surge Protection, etc.)
  • Be able to operate EMC Engineering measurement tools
