What Will You Do

The Airfield Electrician is responsible for maintaining and repairing electrical systems and equipment on the airfield to ensure safe and efficient airport operations. This role involves troubleshooting electrical issues, performing routine inspections, and adhering to safety regulations. The roles requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Whats The Team Like

The facility maintenance team ensures the smooth operation of all indoor spaces at the busy 24/7 airport, keeping terminals, offices, and other buildings safe, functional, and well-maintained. They handle repairs, HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and general upkeep to support airport operations and passenger comfort. Their work is critical to maintaining a clean, efficient, and welcoming environment for travelers and staff.

What Are Some Of The Responsibilities

  • Safely conduct preventive maintenance and corrective repairs on airport electrical systems on an active airfield.
  • Install, maintain and repair airfield lighting systems and their components, including runway lights, taxiway lights, primary and secondary conductors, and approach lighting as per the Calgary Airport’s Visual Aid Maintenance Management program.
  • Install, maintain, and repair high and low-voltage electrical distribution systems at airports, including constant current electrical systems as per CSA Z463.
  • Ensure all electrical work meets relevant codes and safety standards.
  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance and repair activities for TP312 Compliance.
  • Operate light vehicles on active airfield.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve faults in electrical and electronic systems related to airport operations.
  • Service and test generators and regulators.
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, circuit diagrams, and code specifications.
  • Participate in safety training, meetings and adhere to airfield safety protocols.
  • Respond to emergency electrical failures and perform repairs promptly.

What Do You Need To Bring

  • The ability to gain and maintain a RAIC (RAIC Program and Application Information)
  • Graduation from an apprenticeship program with interprovincial certification, the electrical trade is designated as a “proficiency” trade by provincial legislation; therefore, certification is mandatory to practice.
  • 1-3 years’ experience as a journeyman electrician in the areas of maintenance and commercial and industrial installations.
  • Experience working in various weather conditions and performing physically demanding tasks.
  • Expertise in electrical systems, including airfield lighting, control systems, and circuit troubleshooting.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities to diagnose and resolve electrical issues efficiently.
  • High attention to detail in performing inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety protocols and compliance with aviation safety standards.
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with team members and other airport personnel.
  • Flexibility to respond to emergency situations and work on-call when needed.
  • Understanding of aviation regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team to ensure smooth airport operations.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with air brake designation.
