Job summary

The University of Victoria is seeking a skilled journeyperson Electrician to perform tradesperson level electrical maintenance and new installations on campus, under supervision. You will troubleshoot electrical failures, maintain safe conditions, and prepare for project work.

You will operate tools and equipment, manage time records, and work with faculty, staff and external partners. A valid BC Class 5 driver's license and Red Seal are required, with four years' experience in electrical trades.

Qualifications

• Minimum of four years' experience in the electrical trade as a journeyperson.
• Experience with fire alarm systems and electrical metering monitoring.
• Familiarity with planning, organizing, and monitoring day-to-day work in shop/plant environments.
• Experience using a computerized maintenance management system.

Responsibilities

• Perform electrical maintenance and/or new installation work as assigned by supervisor.
• Complete timekeeping and record-keeping for tasks.
• Troubleshoot electrical failures and ensure safe working conditions.
• Operate tools, equipment, and a light vehicle as required.

Job description

Performs tradesperson level skilled work on building electrical maintenance and or new installation work as assigned by supervisor Completes time keeping and recording keeping work associated with the assigned tasks. Maintains safe working conditions. Troubleshoots operating problems and electrical failures related to building electrical systems. Prepares for project work in the assigned areas of responsibility. Use typical tools machinery, and equipment related to the trade. Operates a light truck, Gators, or other similar vehicles.

Specialized Knowledge/Education

• Grade 12 (or equivalency)
• BC or interprovincial Red Seal electrical trades qualification.

• Valid BC Class 5 driver's license.

Experience

• Minimum of four years' experience in the electrical trade as a journeyperson.

• Planning, organizing and monitoring day-to-day work activities and standards in a shop and/or plant environment.
• Familiarity with use of a computerized maintenance management work order system.
