Job description

Mainroad Transtronic Services is a full-service electrical contracting group that provides electrical installation and maintenance services in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia.

We are looking for an experienced electrician to join our team! Much of what you will work on are traffic industry electrical systems (similar to industrial electrical but often implemented outdoors). This job can be challenging, but is unique, interesting, and varied, so you are unlikely to get bored.

A strong mechanical & construction aptitude is needed for this position. Also, be prepared to learn as we provide specialized training as required.

This position has potential for advancements.

Job duties include, but are not limited to :

  • Installing, troubleshooting and maintaining electrical systems, distribution, pump and lighting controls, wiring, streetlighting, traffic controllers, conduit & concrete bases, and lighting fixtures.
  • Operating and using bucket truck, boom lift, scissor lift, forklift, plate compactor, jumping jack, service vehicles / flat deck trucks
  • Mentoring, training, overseeing apprentices and labourers
  • Procurement and organization of materials for current and upcoming jobs
  • Working independently with quality, project schedule and budget in mind
  • Completing all required project and safety paperwork and forms daily
  • Working in trenches, hand trenching and backfilling, working with civil subtrades
  • Handling stock items, ensuring items are stored in an orderly and accessible manner, including pick-up and delivery, to / from designated sites
  • Cleaning and maintaining supplies, tools, equipment and storage areas
  • Providing emergency afterhours onsite electrical support / repairs. Responsibility rotates among staff.

What we are looking for :

  • Red Seal Electrician registered in British Columbia with at least 5 years’ experience in industrial electrical.
  • Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract is required. Airbrake endorsement is an asset
  • Experience working on three-phase systems (typically 600 / 347V, or 480V) is required as is working at heights.
  • Capable of working from drawings to build new installations as well as maintain existing.
  • Experience with streetlighting and traffic signal systems installation, troubleshooting and preventative maintenance is an asset
  • Prior experience & good working knowledge in underground civil works such as; trenching, conduit installation, concrete installation, earth work, standards
  • Current or prior IMSA traffic signal technician training and certificate is considered an asset
  • Traffic Control Person (TCP) certification is an asset
  • Proficient at pipe bending
  • Fall protection and aerial lift certification (will be trained if not presently certified)
  • Ability to perform shift work (i.e. days, nights) – typically aligned to week intervals. Work is more heavily weighted to day shift but can be project dependent.
  • Ability to work out of town if necessary.
  • Willingness to work in adverse weather conditions
  • Computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Motivated, self-starter who has the ability to work under minimal supervision
