Job summary

Johnson Electric is seeking an Electrician to design, develop, and support electrical automation systems in a manufacturing setting. The role focuses on electrical design, controls, machine safety, and documentation for automated assembly lines.

You will collaborate with controls technicians on PLC/robotics projects and contribute to safety, reliability, and performance improvements across production equipment. This onsite Ancaster position offers competitive pay and benefits.

Qualifications

• Certificate or Diploma in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• At least 2 years of experience in electrical design, automation, or controls.
• Experience creating and maintaining electrical schematic drawings.
• Strong knowledge of electrical systems and industrial controls.
• Experience with automation equipment and manufacturing systems.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.

Electrician , you’ll play a key role in the design, development, implementation, and support of electrical automation systems used in advanced manufacturing and assembly operations. Your expertise in electrical design, controls systems, automation, and machine safety will help drive operational excellence and support innovative automation projects.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Design and develop electrical power distribution, controls, and machine safety systems
• Create and maintain documentation for new and existing automated assembly lines
• Develop and update electrical schematics for automation projects
• Select and size electrical components for machine applications
• Design machine safety circuits and safety diagrams
• Develop panel layouts and machine electrical layouts
• Design pneumatic and hydraulic circuits for automated equipment
• Create and document electrical automation systems and standards
• Work with suppliers to specify appropriate electrical and controls components
• Develop, modify, and maintain electrical build standards
• Support machine build, installation, and commissioning activities
• Troubleshoot electrical and pneumatic systems
• Partner with Controls Technicians during the setup and development of PLC, robotic, and vision systems
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance performance, reliability, and safety
• Ensure compliance with quality, environmental, and safety standards

What We’re Looking For:

• Certificate or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related discipline
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in electrical design, automation, or controls environments
• Proficiency in creating and maintaining electrical schematic drawings
• Strong understanding of electrical systems and industrial controls
• Experience working with automation equipment and manufacturing systems
• Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams
• Commitment to meeting deadlines and project objectives

Bonus Points If You Have:

• Experience with PLC systems, field I/O, and control architectures
• Knowledge of VFDs, servo systems, and motion control applications
• Familiarity with industrial communication networks such as Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, IO-Link, and AS-i
• Knowledge of machine safety systems and networked safety concepts
• Understanding of electrical codes, wire sizing, and industrial electrical standards
• Experience supporting robotics and machine vision systems
• Experience in automated manufacturing environments
